This is for everybody who can't spare 3 toolbar slots for a harvesting macrofor each resource

Harvest resources and loot creatures on the fly, without any nasty macro editing!

Create a macro named "Harvest", with text of:
/loot all;
/unit;

Put it in your toolbar slot (for me, it's F7).

Next, create the following three aliases:
/alias hh /alias unit /harvest hide;
/alias hb /alias unit /harvest bone;
/alias hm /alias unit /harvest meat;

Now, to make the macro harvest hides from a creature, simply type /hh, and use the toolbar button. To switch what you're harvesting, simply type /hb (for bone) or /hm (for meat).

I can't take credit for this, however - my friend Kentar'a (on Chilastra) is the one who thought it up.

An alias that changes an alias... Impressive approach.

I guess I don't follow the logic. How is that different than 3 macros that are set up like

/harvest bone;

/loot;

Then you alias the macros (or better, set up keybord shortcuts). Could someone talk me through the logic on that macro? I just can't follow it....

"How is that different than 3 macros"

What happens is that the player only needs to use one hotkey for the /loot; /unit macro.

To switch which resource is being harvested, they type in /hh, /hm, /hb on the command line.

I think this is meant for a player that is harvesting a specific type of resource for the entire game session.

They simply set the type of resource when they go out on the hunt, and every use of the hotkey harvests that.

so, you type /hh the first time you harvest...then hit F7 (in the original poster's case) and it will loot. Then every time after that you just need to hit F7 and it will loot and harvest? And if you want to switch what you harvest, you just type /hb? If I get it, I see how that is worthwhile. I still prefer my keyboards shortcuts, tho, as I am afraid of change. I generally harvest different things on a hunt (I always get insect meat even if i am out hunting hide) so that macro would be a touch more work than my shortcuts.

I guess I am still not seeing the point in this one.

I have three macros hotkeyed in my bar. They are:

  • /loot; /harvest meat;

  • /loot; /harvest hide;

  • /loot; /harvest bone;

Rather than having to type anything at all in the command line I just have to hit one hot key.I don't know if it gets any simpler than that. The only case for the one mentioned above is that is might only take up one hot key spot.... not sure. Other than that I prefer to just use three hotkeys and never have to type anything.

That was the reason provided for the solution in the initial post.

Very clever

Thing is tho, I'm always shifting around, even in the same pile of bodies. I probably will stick to my cntl+alt+h,m,b. I keep the tool bar set to the combat mode anyway, just in case. There is no room left in it for even one "harvest" macro. I might use this to reprogram pet commands, however
