Thread: Skill Point Suggestions???

Well, publish 12.1 is live. There is a HUGE change to my template now. My politician skill boxes no longer cost skill points. This means that according to my math (which could be wrong) Oreet now has37 skill points to play with.

Just looking for some suggestions on what to spend them on.

Current Template

Novice Medic

Master Pikeman

4-0-4-0 Ranger

My typical play style for oreet is hunting and POI and NPC exploring/looting/killing. i enjoy going to places like DWB, Geonosian, and the Corellian Corvette. most of the time i am buffed, with ubese or no armor when hunting rougher enemies (except for spots like DWB, then i have to use the composite)

some of the things i was considering were:

• Mastering Ranger

• Picking up more Medic

• Picking up some Creature Handler (not sure how much help those 37 points would be for getting creatures to help me, since i'm a melee guy)

• this one is a HUGE, drastic change to my play style, but possibly completely retooling my template, and going for Master Rifles, and get a bit of squad leader (this is sort of a long shot on if i'll do this)

• getting some defense from some other melee profession such as fencer or teras kasi

i realize that i might not have enough points to do everything in the above list, but just curious what you guys think might compliment my play style as a Pikeman/Ranger PVE'er.

Also, i like to PvP occasionally, but i die too fast to make it worth the effort.

Thanks guys for any input.

Hey

37 points in CH won't help a whole lot, but then again, I think bio-pets are pretty useless anyhow.

More medic - maybe - let's wait til after the CU tho. Stim Bs are available and good Bs are hard to beat.

Pistol - ehhh. The ranged stuff is nice, but not much else, either master or don't bother,

More Ranger? Traps is really not worth it. Nor is TN when you come down to it unless you are a worm. Camo is ok, the maskscent bonuses are good tho. Camps, ehh, take it or leave it. Honestly, if and when I drop master to go FS, traps is the first line going followed closely by camps.

Get something that will supplement pikeman but in the same arena - TK, one handed? TK Meditate is nice, then you can drop medic ultimately.

Thanks for the suggestions JB.

Mastering Ranger is more of a novelty thing to me (i'm not knocking anyone with the Master Ranger tag, i greatly respect you). I just can't see using the camping line for more than the fun of placing a HTFB, and i NEVER use traps right now.

If i do go through and get the TK Meditate line, which i REALLY miss, since about a month ago or so i dropped TKM for Pikeman, that would cost me 34 skill points (assuming my math is right again) which would leave me 3 points left. i could then maybe get diagnostics 1 in the medic skills, or possibly drop medic and have 18 points to play with (but i still use Stims quite often, so i don't think dropping medic will be a viable option, since most of my hunting is alone, or with other non-medics (i end up being the group's healer).

Given your style of play, my suggestion would be to keep novice medic (and don't add any more) and then get as much defence as you can from Fencer. I pretty much agree with what JB has thrown out there and TK would also be a good option, especially considering you could comfortably free up another 15 SP from medic.

There's my $.02 Cdn for ya

5? When I was a tkm I could go in a kill a lair of Enraged Rancors with Bulls. I'd have about 20-25 on me some times and a lot of time was spent on my back from the bulls. In the end I'd still have full health and a pile of Rancors at my feet...kinda fun for a while but it got boring real fast, which is why I'm going Carbineer now haha.

The only thing I can see wrong with TK, and no cards and letters, I think TK is great, but --

ever seen a Tk dude take on the Peko Albatross? No damage, zero. Alb is 100% kinetic resistant. Now, a TK buffed and armored and 5 rancors - TK wins.

Traps. Hold on, traps are great. Just ranger traps suck. States do not affect creatures. We can dizzy, but it don't count. The blind is ok, the stun is ok I guess - who can tell?. I use scout traps most of the the time anyhow, and yes, as a Pistoleer I use them a lot. Traps are a great supplement to melee professions - toss a sharp bone spur and go to town, toss a p-dart and watch the creature slow, toss a glow wire and watch resists melt away. Gotta love em.

Camps are for show only. With the new way of making crafting count, what can it take, two good playing sessions and mega resources? Bye bye soon. (I keep saying that, wonder when?? Maybe when the last Luck block is ready to be filled)
