Hello brother Rangers and outdoorsmen/women,
Is it just me or is tracking not working too well at the moment?
Been out Kraytin' over the past few days and see nothing on my scan, but seem to be able to find them visually just fine.
Tested this earlier.. found a Canyon/Juve spawn and sped away 300m.. ran a track.. nothing.. went back and sure enough, they where there. Could all the rubber banding be effectig my Ranger eyes?

I've read a few people asking about the same thing. There are "holes" in areatrack, but I always thought they were at about the 100 meter range. Or possibly the new spawn system could be despawning things as soon as you are far enough away and respawning them when you get close again?

I was tracking on Infinity just the other day for Krayts. Purely out of interest to see what the increased spawns was like... /ar... Nothing.. run a few metres... BAM! A big brute spawns right in front of me and it was clone time a split second later. Was unbuffed and unarmoured, so no surprise.
Usually 'disturbing' the general area and then going back over the section tracking works for me.

If you find out how to change your forum name, let me know. I've never been able to work it out... if that's thick, then I guess I'm thick!
As for area tracking... this may also be obvious, but it helps a lot if you move about on foot. For some reason, the lack of speed seems to allow the computer to spawn more consistently and thus area track works better (at least in my experience).

Track seemed to be working fine for me yesterday...except when I decided to see what was in the area after I finished a Jabba space mission and found a Smuggler Pilot come up on the animal list with a few kreetles. But hey, being that he was hanging around Jabba, maybe the Devs thought he was such a filthy scumbag that he could be classified as an animal. With everything else that is borked in this game I just shrugged it off as a non game breaking bug and went on with my business.....as an afterthought, when i start to track and the popup comes up Animal isnt highlighted anymore, as a matter of fact a blank placeholder underneath the _____ thats under the 3 track options is highlighted and you can select that as an option and track, and you fail to find any track in the area of course because your trackin for nothing. Also the warping backward 300m is hell, while it isn't actually a problem with track, it makes it hell to track stuff...
track: 3 GSPs on track to the NE 400m....sweet
start walking and warp back 300m
get back to about the same area you tracked from and try it again just to be sure and nothing shows up on track...walk 50m and a lair of gulginaws spawns 100m behind you.
Spawns are so abundant now you dont even really need to track unless your tracking something specific and warping is just really pissing me off. At least 3 times since pub 12.1 ive been WALKING(although it happens more often on a bike) and ill warp back like 300-500m into a camp of Drall or Pirates or something else that hates my guts...1 time I warped into the middle of a Corsec Deserter base with my Chef(who has no combat skills) and proceeded to die in less then 2 seconds when all I was trying to do was run to my factories that are 100m outside the city and I ended up dying 500m away in some damn base I didn't even know was there.
Well that post got a little off topic, sorry folks, its almost 11 and I've been up all night and its too late in the day to go to sleep now so it looks like i got a long day ahead of me now. I'm gonna be rambling all day so watch out....

Ooh I hope not. That would pretty much render /areatrack totally useless!

Area track usefulness has always been questioned. Most of the timeSWG doesn't spawn creatures until you happen to get close to the spawn location anyway.

It's true, the way things spawn is a problem with /areatrack.
I have to say though, I was getting frustrated with the utility of /areatrack until I joined a new guild and our city was under attack from some imps. I was tracking and could spot them coming from 500m out. We know how many they were and how far away. Later that night the same thing was happening and i could tell they were stopping to group up about 480m away. This info helped us pre-empt their attack and catch them off guard. It's the most useful I've ever felt with my /areatrack. I don't PvP at all really, but this was a fun way to be involved (and exceptionally useful) without going overt and getting my boots knocked off.
That's just a little anecdote for you!
