Thread: /conceal

NPCs stoped giving XP for /conceal. Most agro ones don't attack. Criters are same as always.

Well I found some brigands that gave me xp but that's it. The agro ones that jumped me are kinda borked any way. Valarians that stay yellow untill they land a hit on me. They've not been quite right since Pub. 12 any way.

To lazy to find a combatant to see if its I can camo them. Couldn't find a Nova Trooper to see if they still break it.

I'll up date as I test more.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Still no answer from the powers that be on why /concealing someone is deemed a beneficial act requiring you to change GCW status.

Maybe I confused them with an intelligent question.

Yeah i found this as well when the patch was released. But it feels like, and i have no way of knowing how to prove it, that /rescue and /conceal are healing based and thats where its getting its alignment issues.

I was hunting on Dantooine and got my camo broken by stormtroopers. If it's not supposed to work on NPCs then it shouldn't be broken by NPCs, right? Right?

It certainly does work on NPCs, you can run right through the middle of a Akahara bandit spawn, being max KOS to them and they wont twitch, take it off run back through them, and they open fire.

Nova Troopers still break camo instantly BUT i found there is a tiny window of opportunity to take them out. I found they will break camo at 66m but if you go prone, move up to 65m they wont aggro (anything > 65m will aggro them). 65m is the sweet spot for sniping them.

I tested this out on Endor this morning, there are large roaming ST companies on the planet. I found as long as I stayed 65m away from the Nova Trooper in the group, I could snipe the rest of the company w/ impunity. Once his helpers were dead I could then stay at 65m and snipe him to death w/o having to worry about the others.

It takes more moving around to pull this off, especially because the Nova will move back and forth to the point position of his group and the rear position. (he starts moving around once your camo gets broke, like he knows something is up)

Personally I dont think this is a bug, I think those Troopers were specifically given the ability to break the camo and were specifically given larger aggro ranges. Before they started getting added to those patrols, I could pick them off w/o a care in the world in regards to range or camo on/off. They are specifically there to defend the patrol against snipers.

But I was told, in thisforum that camo was not meant to work on NPCs.

Yeah, a while back, the developers told us it wasn't supposed to. Of course, originally, given the description, it WAS supposed to work against NPC's. They called it a bug and said they were fixing it...but....it never seemed to happen and slowly, it seemed as if it started working on more an more people.

My guess? The devs haven't looked at how or why camo works in some cases, but not in others. So they deemed it a "benefitial act" to ensure that a concealed group of players couldn't just get camo'd by a neutral Ranger and waste bases.

Don't assume it will always work against NPC's (be careful, in other words), and be happy when it does.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

It appears /conceal is in a state of flux. Flux is located down the road from all gacked up.

Originally it appears it was supposed to work against low level NPCs (per the original manual). But it didn't work on all NPCs, even those of equal level, with any regularity. Instead of fixing the problem, we were told that /conceal is not meant to work on NPCs and the fact that it does work on some on an erratic basis is a bug. Beats fixing a broken skill. That is my opinion only, not word from on high, just a semi-educated guess.

Whoever did the coding for the new GCW wasn't told that /conceal is broken and "NOT" supposed to work on NPCs. So they coded it as a beneficial act. Again, suppostion, as my question in the corr forums still hasn't been answered.

All NPCs do a /conceal check, both friendly and enemy, on all personnel regardless of faction that pass into their zones. So yeah, friendlies can break you just as easily as enemies.

At least it works on creatures fairly well. And I did two village missions camo'd without firing a shot or getting shot at in return.

I started using /conceal in Publish 11. Never got xp from a yellow dot. Never got broken by a yellow dot. Publish 12.1 started me breaking and geting xp on Purple dots. Ther was no change other wise.

Between then I could and did hang out as an Imp Next to 200k - 400k HAM Dark Nova Troopers on Endor no xp no breaking.

At first in publish 13 I could be off duty and get xp from my own people. But not Rebs. That made me mad.

Red dot, Yellow dot, doesn't matter. I get camo broken by white dot imps.

Lol told you it was borked... did any body listen... lol

Now that we arn't getting xp on the checks there is jack we can do. Can't really evaluate what is checking use and what isn't.

Since I heard that camo working on NPCs was a "Bug" I've lost a bit of faith in the devs. It was working for me as advertised in the description of the skill in game and in our own FAQs.

If they could have called fein death working in PvP a bug they would have.

Camo is still keeping those lovely nightsisters from noticing me. Only elders break it regularly. It's also working great against black suns. Still gets broken by friendly AT-ST's, though now and again I'll slip by one and get 250 xp for it.
