I love being a Ranger. I love fighting unbuffed and unarmored against beasties. Im currently a Ranger/Rifleman. I Rely a lot on concealshot. When the crap hits the fan, I brust run, adhesive mesh/phecanine/bone spur, and strafeshot till the target is down.

Somehow, knowing that if I accidently bleed my target, I may very well die, just isnt hard enough.

Im looking at going TKM. I was one before, dropped it to go Ranger/Rifleman. However, a TKM/Ranger, unbuffed, fighting banthas and malklocs. What could go wrong? :x

Im gonna really need some suggestions/genius ideas here, on how a lone TKM/Ranger can take out Malklocs with relative safety, unbuffed.

TKM unbuffed could easily solo those mobs.

You should do well

I have done Master Fencer/MR unbuffed and TKM/MR unbuffed.
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=87257

Master Fencer unbuffed has an advantage over TKM using the stun baton as a second source of damage. Plus you can make a Vibroblade with low low HAM costs and fight AP1 for virtually no cost. Plus there defenses are insane and you can just stand up and laugh at your target. And is this is just master fencer not the TK/Fencer combo. We are rangers we dont have the points for both.
I PvP'ed unbuffed and took a buffed spam can shooter down. All a matter of knowing foods, imp psg's vs stun rifles, and the fact hes taking 2.5x damage fighting me at 0m with a rifle.
Master fencer vs creatures is a slow fight but one that you will normally come out of with good health

TKM/MR unbuffed is whole different world. Wound healing, powerboost, disease/poison/bleeding all non-issues. Plus less items in your inventory. A couple VK's and while your fighting unbuffed they will be packed because of HAM cost (although as a master WS i will be playing with ulta low ham versions today for the AP1 advantage). When going up to a nest. Its accargm+garmorrl+1 ahrissa. If its a bigger nest add exo-wafers(cheap and low low filling) to the mix. Meditate, powerboost, and have fun. Think about a droid and/or pet to give you assists in the field.

Between the two if i was fighting NPC's unbuffed id go master fencer. If i was fighting everything unbuffed id go TK. TK is so survivable in the field and it doesnt matter what your battlefatique gets to.

but you're looking at toughness, over all, the TKM will put out more dmg and take less dmg than a master fencer.

See with Fencer you have both the stun baton and the Vibroblade if you need to switch damage types. Although the stun baton is kinda heavy for unbuffed. I made several Viboblades that were in the 10/20/10 HAM cost range. One ahrissa plus the Accargm/Garrmorl and i could stand there and dance with my target all day long. I even took on an overt rebel unbuffed wearing mabari and won since he was a rifleman.

Now with TK I started to experiment with HAM costs on my knucklers and outside of that really strong pair of looted ones the one reply had. I have mine down to 15/30/15 range now. And i made up a special run of 32% action PUP powerups for it to drop the action costs by a further 7-8. Option two would be Scrimpi i think (might be Gruuvan Shaal) which would lower your action ham costs for 40 minutes so you can use the VK. I still fight primarily without them since i can do 2300 damage without them on. But its noticeable when i equip them.

With the way experimentation works on VK and Vibroblades SR is everything so you sacrifice all accuracy for lowered ham costs.

Also TKA you're looking at a terribly versitile and powerful profession, it can hold its own when taking damage, and with out vibro knucklers (which I doubt he will be huntinging anything that would need VK to make a noteable DPS difference, i.e. lvl 50 < ) you're looking at HAM costs per bar of about 5 Health, 5-10 action, and roughly 5 mind.

I would say that in any case the accuracy on VK or VB wont matter anyways due to the fact that both proffessions are extremly high in the accuracy department. ( TKA < 200 Accuracy) Also with Master Fencer you're looking at 32 toughness and 74 melee defense. TKM is looking at 57 toughness and 62 melee defense, which will make you much better suited for tanking mobs of nearly all kinds.

Heck you can solo a Janta mission (26k ++) unbuffed and unarmored as a TKA.

Speaking as a former master ranger/tkm, heres what i found;
You cant harvest while in "combat" mode (unlike looting which one can do hip deep in writhing tuskans), and one of the most annoying things a dev ever did was create the severely wounded, nearly dead creature response of ambling away from scene of the crime, while your busy fighting it's lair mates. Once you kill the ones around you, ya can't harvest because the one with 0.02/9854 life is still drawing breath and agroed on you, from 100m away, and always, always uphill or next to another lair of giant agros. The only thing that makes me angrier is all thrice damnned bird type creatures that not only stay agro, but fly away, far far away, usualy to disapear taking with them the 50-60 units of 100cpu meat Im trying to collect. Of course there is /taunt and sometimes you can luckout w/ /warcry to stop or slow them long enough for the coup de gras. As for vks, yes, get them sliced, they kick up your damage and your attack speed. If you have a pal thats a WS, hit Nyms camps on Lok, and get the vibro thingy the Nyms Pirates drop , that can be used to craft a uber vk. And keep your center of being button handy, or make a CoB macro to use while fighting.

anyway, thas my .02 credits - your milage may differ

BTW fix on Test center for creature warping might make the 1hp creature peaceing out and walking away a little easier to kill.

If it makes you feel any better those birds drive Rifleman nuts too. Most of them can get from point blank to out of range in almost no time with out warping.

I avoid hunting them at all costs.

if you REALLY want to go hardcore, go for pistoleer.

I'm a TKM/Ranger, and I have no problem with Banthas and things. Just watch the specials and all that.

With buffs, I can solo Enraged Rancors, which will be going away with the next combat revamp. (There goes my livlihood.)

Also, powerups are a reasonably cheap way to help yourself out. Melee ones come in a 16/32ish combination of any two of: mind cost (meaning it costs you less), minimum damage, maximum damage (though I don't think you can min/max melee powerups), point blank attack, and attack speed. They're pretty handy to have if you're VKing.

Also, I find that if you throw an Adhesive Mesh on a mob right as it's turned around to crawl away, it'll generally turn back around to fight. If you throw it on beforehand, it'll just ignore it and warp off anyway. HATES THEM.

I also hate the non-agro birds that you'll try to hunt, but they fly faster than you can swoop, let alone run or throw a trap.
