Ok, SWG is my first an only MMORG, so maybe that's why i'm unsure of it's meaning, but what does "mob" mean?

i hear people refer to any attackable non-player thing in game as a mob. even just a single creature can be "a mob". does "mob" have some meaning? like is it an acronym?

It is indeed an acronym. I have heard "man or beast," but I know there is another, more appropriate name out there. It does mean any sentient being (i.e. Shaupauts, Stormies, etc, but NOT inanimate objects such as lairs) in the game that is not a player character.

MOB is an old (old) system developers term for Mobile OBjects. In those cases, long ago ingames far far away..... you found object definition files for encapsulated entities, like a Kreetle, in a file with a .mob extension.
