Thread: Another foray into simple changes for Ranger that could go a long way
2. Camps - Allow Docs & CMs the ability to gain medical XP by healing players in camps rather than by combat healing alone (make them get more XP for being in higher lvl camps, highest XP gain in a HTFB). Make the camps persistduring combat. People would use the camps more if they didnt have to deploy a new one every fight.
3. Tracking - Change the UI to look like the map view that Surveyors get, and display the detected mobs on the map as dots and display names by hovering over their indicator on the map, allow setting a WP to the last known location. (not unlike the seeker droids but we wont get constant updates, but it would get updated if we do another areatrack.
Expand Area Track range to 1000m in all directions, allow Concealed/Force Cloaked targets within 64m be shown on your map display.
4. Traps - Change the Ranger only traps to be usable vs players (they are all state effects anyway).Leave the scout trapsas creature only. Replace /rescue with some kind of special which distracts a mob (like some kind of short duration decoy which they attack instead of you)
Rangers should have their own Master lvl weapon certification and weapons made available. (to complement our Battle Armor cert)
The Mantra here is to define Scout as what it really is (PvE/Creature specific), and Ranger as PvP/NPC specific with the req. for MAster Scout still in place.
All in all thse arent difficult things to implement and use whats already there and would give Rangers more of a role in the greater scheme of the game. Me I dont want to live my days simply being a wild game butcher.

That is the single best idea I have seen for a long time for an enhancement to Ranger
I love the idea, there are a lot of sound ideas. I really like the part about the traps being npc/player ones. They could always change the title to man trapping. I think camps need to play a bigger role in combat, maybe when they get the battlefields up and running again they can play a role.
I totally agree that we need more defense and a greneal ranged accuracy and speed bonus in the ranger skill set. What would it take to make a new rifle for rangers? Maybe a Pathfinder rifle that has a master ranger cert. Also it would not hurt to get a few new abilities for ranged weapons in the ranger skill set.
Your idea of camo for the ranger could be inplement with giving a ranger the option of building a "gillie suit" you would need parts from tailors and resources for the planet it would be used on. It could provide a cover/conceal bonus for the ranger that would hide you like the cover skill in rifleman only you could get a more shots off before detection. You would not beable to wear it with armour and it would be wearable for all races.

/agree. Nice one Kinsh.I don't recall seeing it mentioned before... but my memory fades with age... An alternative to this maybe similar to the Radiation Scanneryou have to use for some of the FS village quests. I would imagine it would be fairly easy to impliment as both these parts of the game are already present and could be tweaked for Rangers...

Amen. I have a BH, but I'm getting to the point where hunting is not for me. I'm sick of the drama associated with it. Ranger seems to be a cool profession (plus I can still assist bounty hunters with Kashyyyk marks, for a price). But with the skill point cost of the profession I would be losing an incredible amount of defenses to take Ranger.
Hopefully soon you guys will get your revamp, and that will include this stuff that you guys desparately need. Being a smuggler, I know what it's like to wait forever for good changes to the profesion. I hope you guys get some loving soon.
