Hi,
I'll come straight to the point: last night me and a guildmate had a little race down andup a steep slope. I am a master Ranger, and used burstrun. My guildmate is a Jedi and used Forcerun (improved FR, from enhancer 4xxx).
We made a little bet, well, not really *little* but anyway.
AndI lost. This puzzled me immensly; I know the Jedi would easily beat the Ranger on a flat surface, hands-down, no questions asked. But what I don't understand is how he could beat me up a steep slope. I have TN +95, and BRE +70, Forcerun gives extra speed (way more than just burstrun), but I readalso TN +50.
What I'm so surprised of is that, even with the extra speed, he beat me... even though I have +45 TN more. What's more; he also claims he did the run twice vs my once.
Does anyone have any insight on this? Should the Jedi beat the Ranger in a mountain climbing race? Is Forcerun so good that he could do it twice while I did it once (because FR doesn't seem to add THAT much speed with tests on flat ground). I'm very puzzled by this

You should've challenged him to a crawl race.
My guess is that burstrun and force run supercede terrain negotiation. That is, while a char is burst running, that char doesn't suffer a terrain negotiation penalty. For example, my chubby crafter alt seems to be able to burst run up the steepest hill, but if he's just walking up it, well, you'd better get a long book. If I think of it, I'll try this out tomorrow and see what happens. But until then, crawl races... don't bet on anything but crawl races!

Improved Force Run is meant to be somewhat similar to +50 TN and burst run. Hill movement speed caps at around +50 (after that, it goes to crawling). So there is a good chance that it is "working as intended".

But his claim that he did the race twice against my once is possible? Since I really though I beat him while he was seemingly idling somewhere, could have been my terrible lag or something... /shrug

What you need to know is that he might have used Force run 2....
On flat ground our burst run is faster than a jedi force run 1. I know this because today I was overt hunting imps with 2 jedi friends of mine, and we came across a declared imp (I will not name names......cough SMACA cough) and he hits me in shuttle port....but I was just the bait....my friends uncloaked and the battle was on. He saw that he was losing and tryed running away. Once outside the starport he used force run (so did my friends) and I used burst run (with a rifle equiped).... I caught up to him and when I was 13 meters away, I used kneecap shot and snared him....My Jedi friends caught up and I DBed him.

Also, a really steep cliff does not have as much need for terrain negotiation as it may seem.

Speaking of Force Run....I beleive the basic ability is FR +33% TN, Improved FR +66% TN. Not only are there speed modifiers, but the terrain negotiation modifiers are in it as well.
