A post on Trapping xp
Another post on trapping xp.
We used to have a sticky of trapping stuffs. The long and short of trapping xp is: It's based on your CU level. Don't hunt anything over your CL until you level trapping up. At least that's how I understand it.

it's no longer based on your level. There are only two numbers that matter here:
your trapping level.
the level of the creature.
you'll get the same XP if the trap hits no matter what creature level you are. But you won't be able to hit high level creatures unless you have a high trapping mod. Thus, to gain trapping XP when your trapping mod is low, use traps on low-level creatures. You will recieve a reasonable amount of XP. As your trapping level rises, you will be able to trap higher level creatures for more XP. at no time will you only get 1 XP and at no time does your personal CL have any effect on the XP.

Trapping XP is gained by successfully landing traps on creatures which have a CL at or close to YOUR TRAPPING SKILL MODIFIER.
As with weapon XP you will gain less XP if you trap creatures significantly lower than your TRAPPING SKILL MODIFIER.
If you attempt to trap creatures with a CL above your TRAPPING SKILL MODIFIER you will have an increased fail rate*.
Your TRAPPING SKILL MODIFIER is listed in the bottom left hand box of your character sheet (ctrl+S) and increases as you progress through the trapping lines of both Scout and Ranger**.
You can temporarily boost your TRAPPING SKILL MODIFIER by using Dweezel. This will allow you, temporarily, to trap creatures at a higher level than your 'learned' trapping level.
YOUR CL should have no effect on your trapping abilities at all now (since pub 20)
* In the old days, some types of creatures were harder to trap than others at the same level. This may still be the case, Unfortunately we don't have the same info as we had way back then, so /shrug. Dunno.
** You will occaisionally get a whole stack of traps that don't stick. Use a different trap type, might work. Might not. Sometimes life's just like that.

Can anyone say Dweezel...this is the most important grinding foods for trapping xp...Have only second tier completed in Ranger Trappin and was successfully hitting Grand and Adolesence Krayts. I only have a +5 clothing mod for trapping. Using this food and doing missions that are at the same or higher than ur level u can gain 1300-1500 traping xp.

Publish 21 kind of set trapping xp back to the way it was before the cu. Now you get xp for each trap landed and combat no longer affects the amount you receive. For instance pre publish 21 you would throw traps and not get the xp window until after the creautre was killed. If you used combat to kill the creature your xp was reduced. If someone else killed it then there would be no combat penalty. Post publish 21 you now get trapping xp for each trap you throw that lands and causes the particlar traps state effects to affect the creature. If you are trying to grind traps keep in mind that p-darts are the only trap ive found that can be spammed failry successfuly. Like the others said use dweezle and trap things under your trapping modifier.
Me personally i dont grind traps. i did for my last box of scouting traps, because I wanted to get it over with. Now i actually enjoy traps. I enjoy going out with groups. Eating some dweezle and throwing p-darts at the critters. My combat profession is carbineer, so a p-dart+carbine snare shot=root.
