Hey Rangers-

Last couple months, I have been reading your forums. Really like you guys and what you do over here, especially with the non-love you get. Now that I have an alt, I've been thinking of becoming Ranger for the last week or so...

Mostly I love the aspect, the lifestyle, and warming up to your community. But I had a few questions that the FAQ and guides I have read a dozen times, don't really cover.

What is your main role as a Ranger? Do you hunt when you play? Communicate with people on business matters? Big game hunting? grinding? exploring? - Just trying to figure out the aspect that pulls others into this profession.

I was thinking going, Ranger/BH (Ranger/Smuggler doesnt have enough SPs )Anyone enjoy certain aspects of this? Or do others find a profession like Ranger/Rifleman funner? I'm really stuck on this part.

and finally at the moment, what is it that makes Rangers viable even with the little love this profession has recieved, yet truely deserves?

I'm sorry If im redundant in any questions, But I always feel I get more out of an answer if you word the question yourself.

And any advice for the grind and profession itself would be great!

I recently became a Ranger/BH since pistoleer wasn't doing it for me. You get added defenses, and duelist stance helps with that. Also the variety of weapons is useful depending on your situation or what you're hunting.

My role is.. mostly the wandering ranger. I typically search out a trophy, or a big game creature. Other times I just get into a group on Dant and grind along even though I don't need the xp or the crappy harvested meat/hides just to get out and hunt with other people, but sometimes I just get a few friends together at night and we go hunting for cash. Occasionally I just seek out harvested spawns to see the quality and refer them to the local armosmith or dealer of hide/meats on my server, as I did tonight for a change, which gives you something to check out and also lets you remember what animals give what. And as a BH when I get bored I can always track down an NPC to kill and get out into the wilderness to seek him out.

I wouldn't recommend Player Jedi hunting though, seeing as our accuracy is pretty low and our defenses aren't that hot without a root on other characters. Mostly, I spend my time exploring, helping, and taking in the scenery of other people.

What is your main role as a Ranger?

I am responsible for slowing down creatures with P-Darts, and harvesting anything my guild might need while grinding xp. I have been known to move between templates quickly.

Do you hunt when you play?

I hunt for resources, I grind for xp. I have more fun when I am not grinding, and fun is close to "play," so yes I hunt when I play. Usually I think "Hey, I might want something that a looter will be trying to make big bucks off of, so I might as well be prepared to bid high." And then I go off and get 500K of the resource that is in demand, and sell it for as much as I can. Of course, I ask my guild if they need any first.

Communicate with people on business matters?

I inform people of crafting matters, such as resources required, interpreting stats, and mentioning what might be a good thing to stock up on after observing what occurs in the state of the game. I received 5 crates of Dweezle for suggesting to my server's Chef that Dweezle would be in demand, as a result of Trapping xp being hard to grind at low levels.

Big game hunting?

Only when I need loot. Big game is either for the loot, or the screenshots. Or, it's part of a quest. Or, I've never killed that particular creature before.

grinding?

Sometimes.

exploring?

I tend to go via Barc speeder as often as I can. I make waypoints for good places to power-fish, just in case there is a good spawn of fish meat for some reason.

- Just trying to figure out the aspect that pulls others into this profession.

Bounty Hunter makes up for the lack of special attacks from Ranger. I chose Creature Handler because of the companionship I can have, eye-candy, and a cheapCL 80 template.

and finally at the moment, what is it that makes Rangers viable even with the little love this profession has recieved, yet truely deserves?

Tough answer. P-Darts seem to be a more effective root than Rifleman's Knee-Cap shot. I'd think that Camoflauge does have it's uses. My Imperial friend couldn't get past the second portion of Borvo the Hutt's quests, because he was Imperial, but when I camo'd him he could talk to the guy just fine. I like the fact that if I have a single Spec-ops deed, I can create a hoarde of military defenses in a single area without having to be near a recruiter in an NPC city. Just as long as you have the faction points.

I'm sorry If im redundant in any questions, But I always feel I get more out of an answer if you word the question yourself.

And any advice for the grind and profession itself would be great!
