Thread: Making of a hunter...a question

I recently made my ranger alt and I am having fun with it, but I have a template question. My main focus is going to be gathering resources from critters and the occasional bounty hunter mark hunts. Below is the template I am thinking of:

Master Bounty Hunter

Ranger 3/0/4/0 (for camo, TN, harvest)

Rifleman 4/0/0/4 (for rifle acc, speed, and improved headshot)

I wanted to be able to perform well with combat (PvE and PvP) and be able to take down some of the big critters as well. Is this going to qualify as Cl80? I am not sure how to tell. Any one have any suggestions on if this is a good mix for a professional hunter (critters, NPC's, and ...perhaps some PC's from time to time)? I don't intend on being an uber jedi hunter..that would be just when I am bored and looking for a change, but I am more concerned with PvE as I am not sure that a MBH\MRanger would be able to stand on its own combat wise.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I think to be CL 80 with Ranger in your template, you're going to need to Master Ranger and another combat profession. Taking down big creatures with that template will be very hard, as you'll need to land a lot of traps. Rifleman snare is very weak, BHs have a KD shot but nothing else to slow them down. I'm Master Ranger/MBH and it works very well for me in PvE, and not bad in PvE. I was practice dueling a Jedi friend and I actually won with that template (noe: he isn'tfully templated.

The problem you're going to run into is that you probably can't be good in PvP and PvE with Ranger in your template. Because to gain PvP skills, you'll have to give up PvE skills and vice versa.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

So Master Bounty Hunter on its own stands up as a good combat profession for PvE?

Yes my template is MRanger/MBH/SL 0-3-0-0. This gives you some nice defense bonus from the SL, and MBH is a decent enough PvE template.MRanger has some nice perks that make PvE nice too, such as p-darts, TN, and cammo. It's nice to be able to pull out the quicker pistol when your in close quarters, and the rifle out on the planes and such. Coupled with a trapping droid with combat mods in it it works very nicely

I just respec'd to MBH a few days ago, but prior to that I was Master Ranger, Pistolier 4/0/04, BH 0/3/40. Only one mastery, but I was still cl 80.

Call me al. One word of warning, though... during the three week respec I tried a ton of profs, and a lot of hybrid combos. One of them only got me to CL 79. I don't remember which one it was, but I found it very puzzling because it followed the same 'master ranger, two fullbranches in one prof, 1 fullbranch and 1 branch with 3 boxes filled in another' model that I'd used over and over every 12 hours during that period.
