Hi all !

Was just curious what weapon profession works best for a Ranger who plays solo... player vs. animals only.

Any suggestions would help very much, thanks :-)

IMO - Rifle. Conceal shot is great for hunting, taking down BAF mobs.

Unfortunately, it's getting nerfed, so my opinion changes to pistol! More bang for the buck(unless you plan on mastering rifle, as master rifle = god).

It all depends on what you like shooting. Don't rule out melee professions either.

Each weapon class has good and bad sides of it.

Bottom Line play what ever combat profession makes you happy and an effective killing machine.

I humbly suggest Teras Kasi. I'm a pretty die hard solo player since I work a night shift and play in the morning, and about 90% of my combat is versus creatures. In my opinion, TK fits very well with the idea of Ranger self-reliance, mostly because of the meditation line. At meditation IV,you can heal poison, disease, bleeds, and wounds without any sort of equipment. At meditation II you get powerboost, which takes 50% of your mind pool and adds it to all 3 HAM bars. So with 1000 HAM in all three bars, you'd end up at 1500.

Also, the TK Master ends up with 57% unarmed toughness, which is essentially the same as having armor with a 7% kinetic resist on all the time. Guess what type of damage most creatures do?

Oh yeah, and you also become a killing machine, but that's sort of a given.

I always solo and I always use my 2handed axe...i think it's sliced because I'm hitting for 600-700 damage everytime. Along with throwing traps it works quite well.

When I was but a young Scout I saw a similar question posted and one of the responses was "play what you like." How true. I know I put some of myself into my character (isn't that the point?) and when I tried to play my Scout/Ranger the way I thought he should be played, I really didn't enjoy the game. When I started playing the character the way I wanted to play him, I had lots of fun.

I like to use the ranged weapon most appropriate for the situation so I ended up mastering both Scout (obviously) and Marksman. I wanted some punch that would allow me to continue working with a variety of ranged weapons so I'm dabbling in Bounty Hunter. Most creatures I encounter do not have defenses against Acid or Electricity so I use my Scatter Pistol for bleeds and kiting and my LLC to add that punch. Throw in some traps to provide you with a buffer zone and bonuses to ranged attacks and you're in business.

I chose pistol because i watched how i played and found that i like to move around, get close and be in the heat of the battle.

Riflemen, TKA and the others have some great perks too.

I will give you the same advice given to me:

Watch how you play, determine your strategy, and above all, play in the way to have fun. If pistols dont work for you, switch to melee or something that you like.

There doesnt seem to be a "best" profession for weapons for ranger, however there does seem to be a good synergy with riflemen.

I am a Master Ranger/TKA and I love it. Sonic Pulse dizzy and stun, knockdown and boom one dead creature pretty quickly. Unless it is War Gronda, but I'd rather not talk about that.

I have learned sense taking Rifleman you will always need to bring a melee guy with you, TKA preferd (or pick up 2-handed if the SP will let you, I have none left). Having a rifleman along with a TKA can kill a standard set of 5 critters really fast if he tanks for you (less downtime for the TKA too). However: on your own you are pretty skrewed. Conceal shot is about the one thing that allowed you to solo but if this is getting nerfed (they JUST fixed this, dammit) you might want to go elsewhere. I'm told I will change my mind at master... we shall see...

I'm a Master Pistoleer/ Master Ranger- It works well. I have a nice collection of good guns and that helps.

(sidebar- follow the good advice here on the boardsand you have so much money that you'll be able to buy any gun you need- On valcyn- I have found that no matter what 2 weeks after some great herb or avian stops dropping some too rich for his own good doctor will offer to pay 40 credits per unit for the no longer dropping resource) After about the 3rd or 4th round of thisI startedstashing away stuff for the windfall time. Need a good set of armor- trade some 900 + oq 700 + sh wolly hide ---Time anddemand areyour best friends

Also there is a pistol for every damage type save cold. I have Krayted versions of acid, energy and heat wep's this grants me an effective option vs 85% of what I'm gonna be hunting....resource (bulk) hunting with a weapon that is only 20% effective is not smart....It eats up the weapon, wastes your time, and cuts into the bottom line...if your experiance hunting it's okay but those days end pretty quickly

Fan shot is great vs gathered blue mobs- 2 shots kill 4 mobs harvest away...

Get in trouble- argo a lair /burstrun and spam fanshot as you run you live they die harvest away

2stacking bleeds is nice while kiting tougher stuff.. Fast weps, low delay + camo = 7-9 special before mob argos on you... with a Krayted, powered up prenerfFwg5 hitting for 3500+ on stopping shots you can do some real damage- yes its random ham but if you land 2 or 3 on health you use BS3 and finish up fast.

I'm bothan with high action ham and + camo BE gear unguilded and playing solo alot due to crazy schedule in real life. I 'm not sure this is the BEST way to do it but it's not the worst way.

Overall i have found downtime to be very low...

As some past posters have noted take on what suits your style - you'll be happiest that way

TKA seems to go very well with traps. Stink bomb especially.
