Thread: Tell me again why we aren't the anti pet class?
What I'm referring to is our use of traps against creature pets. Or the lack of. I mean the ATST has it's nemesis, the Commando and the flamethrower. And devs seemed to do that on purpose, which is fine, there needs to be at least a single defence/offence something so powerful and nasty.
But creature pets are also powerful and nasty, yet there is no single defence/offence for them. It should be the ranger and the traps. Or I guess I should I say the Scout, since Rangers dont really have much traps. :-) But the point is why haven't they addressed this yet? Why can't we use our traps on creature pets.
I know it's in the state of profession, but getting involved in PvP, I see Imp pets just tear into my Rebels, and I feel very much like they should be looking to me to help them. But no. I have pretty much nothing to add to PvP from my ranger skills. Player tracking, but its limited and doesn't help in battle.
Please, for the love of Terra, help us out here.
What we really need is to allow Camo to work PvP but have it break upon attacking. Remove us from the radar and overhead map as well as prevent enemies from auto targetting. It would provide that upperhand advantage at surpise attacks.
Let us track faction players without having to use /who imperial and sift through the track list.
If we could trap pets, I would do more PvP.
And traps do not just do state effects. The adhesive mesh does action damage (which goes great with my carbine skills), noise makers hit the mind pool (good for riflemen/women), lecepanine can damage action and sharp bone spur damages mind.
I don't do pvp .. Why?
Player vs Player.... NOT player vs player and his gang of pets and crap
IF I WANTED TO FIGHT CREATURES.. WHY WOULD I WANT TO GO AFTER YOUR PET....
Think about it.. pets should be eliminated from pvp.. then.. it would be PLAYER VS PLAYER not this 'go sick em boy' BS that is ruining the game
I mean come on.. WERE IN REAL STAR WARS DID HAN SOLO PULL OUT HIS DOGGY AND SAY 'GO SICK EM'
HE DIDN'T
The fact the creautre handler is even in this game as a viable profession has disgusted me from day one, fyi that would be the 2nd day that the game was out.. cause the first day .. lol SONY JACKED IT ALL UP! Go figure right?
Rumor says we will be able to use traps on pets inthe near future. If so, this does make us the anti-pet profession. And CHs will tremble at the sight of us. The Devs are getting the idea that even with the coming nerf of pets, pets do rule PvP, which I must agree is Bravo Sierra.
Go ahead MCH, break out that graul in PvP. Not only will you go down, your pet will get p-darted, glow-wired, l-darted, adhesived, and I don't know what all. If anyone has an ounce of sense they trap the pet senseless, incap the CH, then go after the pet with traps and weapons to kill it. Then return to the CH. Offer your heart felt sympathies about his dead pet before you DB him.
Hmm, would I risk my pet that I had to tame, train, feed, watch grow, in a silly PvP knowing that there are Rangers out there drooling to get a chance to finally beat upon a pet?? I don't think so.
Personal observations and opinionsonly - to be used only by trained professionals, do not attempt this at home.

Actually SOE is nerfing the CH class again. So the most common pets that you have been facing are going to be easier to take down. Lots of them are loosing their armor as well. So unless you are going up aganist a Master Creature Handler you should soon see a change in the battle.
Having said that I think that HELL YA we should be trapping pets! We should also be able to set traps for men as well as beasts. Not sure how I managed to create a sonic pulse at a frequency that only animals could hear. But it seems to have no effect on humans.
I think the main reason they nerfed PvP trapping of pets(could you ever do this? Might have been a pre-emptive nerf lol) was to keep people from grinding trapping exp on players pets in a duel. lol
At least thats how it seemed to me last night when I dueled my friend, and tried to throw a trap at his pet, and it said "cannot target blah blah blah, cuz I'm stupid"
At the very least, should be able to trap pets, and not get exp for doing it. I mean, come on. lol Should be able to trap players too.
I mean, what reason is there that I can't throw a sticky blob on a creature, just because its standing upright and talks common?
"Rumor says we will be able to use traps on pets inthe near future."
Remember... I said "in the works". ![]()
We all know how long it took for the Lok Camo Kit to get into the update stream, so it could be a while yet before we see this change, even though they are talking about it now.
- But I must admit, it will be sweet when it does go in.

The trapping of CH pets corresponds to the skill of trapping divided by 2 (i think the trapping at master ranger is at 100 although i could be wrong and the max creature level is 50...) If i am wrong, then disregard.
This way, a master ranger could successfully trap a graul or a rancor while a novice scout could trap a non-ch pet. This could be the balancing factor.
Nraas, if you think this is a good idea, and the ranger community does as well, maybe we could ammend the pet trap issue on our dev request....
thanks
I'm sure they didn't allow us to trap pets was because they didn't want us exploiting it for trap xp. And I agree with that thinking. But then I think we are all fine with not getting xp for it anyway. We aready don't get xp for dueling or PvP combat anyway, it wouldn't be any different. And because we don't get that combat/weapon xp I don't see why they couldn't code it in there to do that for trapping.
And someone mentioned the trapping skill and scaling that. Well personally, ATM I don't see what the skill does anyway. I never saw a difference from novice scout to now master ranger, in how often my traps hit. I do believe the trapping skill is suppopsed to be about how often the traps land. It doesn't seem to be enough of a difference as you progress. Not to mention, the skill should also add the effecivness and duration of the traps. You know acutally make trapping skill worth it. If the skill worked so that as you went higher, your traps had a better effect on the creature, and the states lasted longer, it would be very worth it and make it worth the while.
"ATM I don't see what the skill does anyway."
Well, the most visible use of the trapping skill is that it determines whether you can use a particular trap...
- In this case, it works like camping skill, in that you can use the trap in the next level above your skill, even if you can not make it yourself.
As to whether it affects the success rate, that seems to be pure speculation on our part. ![]()
Sorry I had to comment on that hijacking slanderous post.
With reguards to the rest of the "on topic" inteligent post's I totaly agree its a needed change, even as a MCH.
