Thread: My opinion on the Ranger
Felt like blowing some time off on lunch and write out what *I* think should be the ideal ranger.
I read other peoples opinion about ranger and believe all of them to be correct. One thing I would like to see Sony address is the skill trees, I would much rather have 16 different skills than 4 skills with subcategories. I think this would diversify the profession as a whole.
Ranger should be to creatures and people what commando is to atst's. I think it's great that I will be able to track players and creatures, however, I think it should have it's limitations especially with char's. I see the Ranger be able to track someone through a forest or across a planet, but only their physical whereabouts. A BH on the other hand should be able to track someone through the use of technology, computer hacking, aka slicing, or some such way, (unless of course they already have this).
To me a Ranger is the Predator/Monk. Able to hunt quietly, undisturbing nature, and ingenously. He should be one with nature and be able to usenature as a weapon. Think Arnie against thePredator. Heshould have weapons that extend hisnatural abilities, like the traps we have, butalso able to create traps that even the biggest animal can't break, even cavemen created traps that woolymammoths couldn't break likespike pits. People are smarter thandumb animals, but in the name of balance it seems we lose out in SWG.
Case in point, I exploited the fact that some animals couldn't attack you if you were directly above them on a cliff, they just sat at the bottom, while they got pummeled. But thenSony fixed this, as the "creatures will now warp past items they are stuck on".What the heck is that? It's an unnatural fix for something that it is inherent in RL.
I also see us as one with killing, think The Professional. Not so much as close quarters combat, that's Tera Kasi, but sniping from a tree fort or laying on the ground covered in camo. The Army Ranger. Like Terminator we know how to kill, where it will hurt the most. I can see a Ranger with a rifle, but not one with a flame thrower (don't want to start a forest fire).
We are Ninja in the outdoors. /maskscent works well for me and gives me this feeling, but how about other things like, why the heck don't we have camo colored clothes? (Unless these are the camo kits we get) We have bird cages for God's sake.
Forage. Haven't used it yet, shame on me. But can we forage for different things?
Medicine, think Witch Doctor, or herbal medicine. LOL, we should be able to smoke the peace pipe for a stim. After all we have beer for the minors why not dope? (That was a joke.)
It would be nice to see that we could train pets, but only the more docile of the bunch, kaadus, but not spats. After kaadus that's a CHs job.
Well lunch is over, the above is just a rant, and most of this was said in the Top 5 report so take it for what it's worth.

RIGHT ON !
However
Medicinebelongs to the medics/docs/CM's
Pets belong to CH's
However, it would be nice and not really agrivate the CH's if Rangers could tame as actual true, non combat, non mount pets, the most simple of hamless critters, for example a baby wort. It would make a nice pet to hang around the camp fire with and yet not unbalance. I don't think it would upset CH's since it actually provides no useful function in the game.
"I don't think it would upset CH's since it actually provides no useful function in the game."
I would think the CH population would consider it a cut into their pet sales business if Rangers were able to tame even the simplest of pets. ![]()
I agree with Alfgand's assesment of your post also. I agree and like a lot of your suggestions but feel that the medic and CH stuff shouldnt really be a part of ranger to that extent (would be nice but is a little too much).
Worst case If there was something we could do to help compliment CHs in taming pets. That would be some value to CHs, just like we harvest resources. It would probably be too much to be able to "capture" a baby to sell to CHs but maybe something along those lines would be a cool idea....or maybe a trap that would assist in taming. I dunno....just ideas ![]()
"maybe a trap that would assist in taming."
I like the idea of a trap that increases taming success, that is pretty cool.
I am a Ranger. My presence should send a chill down the spine of CHs everywhere. I can track anything, anywhere. I can tell you what you need to know about any creature, probably more than you need to know in fact. My camps have no equal. My traps can stop creatures in their tracks, enabling me to harvest what I need to enable me and my team to survive.
Now, if that was only true. I want to trap pets, as a balance to CH. That's the biggie. I get that, I am a very happy Ranger.
Tracking I got no complaints with. Camps, well, fix what we got and I am happy. Traps, same deal, make em work like they are supposed to. Harvesting, no complaints.
As to medicine, nah, leave it to the medics (oh wait, I am a medic too). Taming, not my job man, see the CH.

wishing and hoping Santa brings him pets to trap for Christmas
Good luck.
"You guys definately need something. The insane amount of points you give up to become a master ranger and you are mildly better then a scout.
Good luck."
Hey Thanks!............err..I think ![]()
