Thread: New Ranger Benefit XP Trainer
Heya:
Discovered this and thought I'd like to share it with any other Rangers who are out of skill points but are in a clan, PA, whatever. Any Imps you gotta give me 10 credits everytime you use this idea, according to Galactic Trademark laws.
Rebs, we've been told we're breaking the law so much it don't matter.
I'm less than two boxes from Master Gunfighter, and really out of the grind now, just having fun with it because I want to switch once I'm done. We have a couple soon-to-be Antarian Rangers who are working on elite combat professions. I was hunting with these fine young gunners and realized that if I just stand there and contain the animal and just keep my pistol ready for emergencies, the guys who need XP get all of it.
Now, when you were working on Novice X, don't you wish you had someone who could take you out and provide safe Mountain Squill hunting? Heck, I remember when I was scared cold of the regular squills that would spawn in the north part of Mos Espa.
For Mountain Squills (4645 weapons XP, 465 combat XP, no deathblows) you just stand 40 meters away at all times and that gives you time to throw two phecnacines in a rowafter the first one wears off. You can also have adhesive mesh to throw if you think it's wearing off but are not sure, because adhesive stacks on top of the phecnacine. Throw a glowire after the animal is snared / rooted so thetrainees can cut through it faster.
Of course, every once in awhile, you'll need to use suppression or warning shot in case you get a couple trap errors in a row, and if the person you're training kills veery slowly you can put a couple DOT bleed shots on the animal. But overall it's a very effective, andFUNway of helping people grind xp. I think it's even better than using an animal to tank because you don't have to make / break camp for the animal swaps, heal an animal, or worry about one getting killed or wounded.
The people you help are extremely happy to help you with your harvesting, too, since their getting massive experience on animals they would have zero chance of soloing. Besides that, I think a lot of fun in the game is in helping out other players. Almost all of us profession masters knew what it was like to see a cool hunting group of elites that you wanted to be a part of, only to be told to get lost because you were only novice marksman, brawler, etc. Well, now's our chance to be someone's in-game big sister or big brother, so to speak. (Even though the person you're helping could be twice your age IRL, they always 'seem' kinda young when they have fledgling skills compared to me, and people who could obliterate squills when I was working on sevorrts seemed like those Big Kids who rode BMXs when I was on training wheels.)
Unless I'm on a specific mission where I have to get something done really fast, I am open to helping newbie Rebels or neutrals gain xp. I don't care if you just got to Starsider and have a CDEF, a survival knife, and a melon. Give 'ol Ypiana a /tell and I'll help you if you're in the Anchorhead area. Oh, and I might ask for a little bit of the hides, bone and meat you grab off the groupharvest though, because I won't be getting my normal harvest and I'm also burning through entire backpacks of traps and tranquilizers.

Master Ranger
When I was trying to get apprentice points for master scout, I got a bunch ofnew scoutstogether to go from 0 to trapping IV in an afternoon. It was a blast! Those guys had alot of fun lobbing traps at big game. I had no trouble getting my apprentice xp either.
Yeah, that's another thing, you can use unlimited traps (like glowire) on animals, and I helped a soon-to-be bounty hunter get her trapping line in one night. Forgot about that!

Master Ranger
I would gladly take anyone hunting, all they have to do is ask.
Ypiana, it also shows people that rangers are just like them. Shows them at as an elite profession we are just another player in the game not something to awe over when We drop a hq camp. It helps our profession out.
What I meen is sometimes you might see a novice player pounding a bounty hunter or MCH with questions etc, only to get ignored.
When they see a master ranger get capped, and not just stand there unharmed, it helps balance out the group aura. Prevents feelings of jealously and all stuff like that. Hell I'll even tame em baby flewts for a pets. Its good pr work, helps them out and you never know who is gonna be the next armorsmith/creature handler/medic asking for help or resources in some form.
I was capped twice last night using rescue on a novice scout and a dancer to protect them from a capper queen, good thing I hit /tellpet attack before i went down
It's also fun which is key, this is a game.
Happy Hunting
Yes, it's amazing to observe, through as clumsy an interface as a computer game (albeit a good one), people actually lighting up, as you said.
And I always rescue / save someone getting attacked while I'm out hunting. It just seems like the Ranger thing to do.

I've resently taken a coupleScouts on safari and I have to say that it is a very fun and rewarding experiance. Makes me feel al warm and fuzzy knowing that I am imparting some of my meager wisdom on a new Scout or Ranger.
I think this is how Apprenticship was invisioned, not standing at the starport shouting for a trainer.
