Thread: New Harvesting Restrictions and Efficiency
Did a little experimentation today. I'm a CH anda Ranger, with Tracking IV.
Ungrouped, I can harvest 9 units of meat off a fat diseased nuna.
This is the same amount of meat I can harvest off a kaadu female, if I'm grouped, even if it's just me and my pet.
In short, if all I care about is resources, it is far more efficient for me to just wander around outside of cities and kill the little critters than to go into the wild, hunt tougher things, using my pet.
I don't believe this is something that was intended.
Probably not what was intended but quality of product is important as well and typically differentiated by bigger badies. For example the Wooley hides are typically on tougher creatures and the better quality Wooley is on the some that are tougher than that. However as a Ranger I find them all realtively fun. In addition there are a lot of crafting schems that require specific planet resources as well.
I've never noticed quality of resources differeing from animal to animal so long as you're on the same planet.Nabooian Animal bones are the same whether you harvest them from a chuba or a fambaa. It's true, there is difference from planet to planet, and harder animals on different planets may provide better resources. (Though not always. Stuff I get from Yavin is frequently inferior to stuff from Naboo.)
And yes, you can only get certain materials from certain creatures. On Naboo, you can only get wooly hide from peko peko and gualama, both of which are not found right around cities. But then... durni have wooly hide and are right around most Corellian cities.
I think a solution would be to have the game perform a check when harvesting... if the scout/ranger doing the harvesting is grouped with others who can also harvest, then the 60% reduction kicks in. If not, then the full 100% is given. That way, it'll be worth it for me to use my pet and go out into the wild and let the newbies train around the city.
Alternatively, how about making it always 60% less, just allowing a scout/ranger to harvest every resource if they want?
