Ok, I kid you not, this happened twice in two weeks outside Anchorhead.

While soloing Rontos, a novice marksman or scout comes by andstarts observing me. He saw me containing the animal but he must not notice me throwing traps. Maybe he thought they were grenades. I said 'Hi' and continue working.

Next thing I know, the poor guy starts shooting at a Ronto with his CDEF. The Ronto proceeds to beat his poor butt all over Tatooine before I can even help him out. When he finally gets up here's the conversation:

Young hunter: What happened?

Me: That ronto beat thesnot out of you.

YH: Yeah, but why?

Me: Because you attacked it and you're not ready to solo it yet.

YH: Really? Why were the ones you were killingjust standing there and dying.

Me: What? Oh, you mean my traps?

YH: Oh, is that why it was just standing there while you shot it?

Well, that made my stomach hurt. I've had people ask me why the animals don't seem to attack, but I never met anyone who just thought 'Wow, that's easy, let me try!'

Then the same thing happened Saturday while I was hunting Rogue Banthas. They can be nasty cuz they have dizzy and also deathblow, so you don't want them in melee range. Well, sadly, this poor guy gets killed and we have a /tell conversation identical to the first guy.

Well, maybe it's just me, but it was funny at the time, and kind of a cute learning experience for these guys.

I had a guy watch me clear out a Giant Dalyrake nest, luckily he didn't try it himself, then he stopped to talk to me, and was like 'I never seen anybody kill those before, you must be awesome' I almost had to laugh.

I have a small questiona about traps. How do you use them and keep the creature from charging you? Everytime i use them i have /maskscent on. I've tried with and without weapon equiped, and the creature charge me as the first trap have effect on it. Not even the snare trap stops them in their track, this is from butterly drones up to giant carrion spats on Corellia. So most of the time i just attack with my rifle get off 3-7 free shoots then when the creature start to charge i pull out my pistol and finish it off while throwing traps on it just to gain trap xp.

I've found the p.dart is really good at keeping the creature 40-30m away. I always toss a glow-wire trap to increase my damage. I've had mixed success with the adhesive mesh and I didn't feel they were completely economical but I plan on trying to make a crate of them in the near future and really trying them out. I like the flash bomb and they are good for mobbing creatures. I've only used sonic a few times to not-good results, but I've heard that it depends on the creatures you use it on.

Yeah, as a Melee class I only use Snare to buy myself some time to engage my other traps. I wish I had an opportunity to permanently keep a creature more than 10m away from me and still damage it.

The key to stopping any animal in their tracks is specials.

Aside from Adhesive Mesh or PhecnacineDarts, I won't throw a trap at something until it begins to charge.

When it does charge, I usually go for suppression fire, and if that don't work, warningshot. Once the creature begins to run the other way, Adhesive Mesh and Phecnacine Darts get thrown. Then it's a combo of suppression fire and if it gets too close, overcharge1 and/or 2.

This combo has helped me solo Tortons, Sharnaffs, Humbabas and many other beasties. The key is to not throw the trap too early and give away your position. Every solo beast I kill I start the fight prone.

Keep in mind, when crafting traps, use only the best you can find. I know it means nothing, but it somehow convinces me I have quality traps, even though I know it means nothing.

Hmm in beta I had a fairly high leveled character. Some folks new to beta wanted to group and hunt so i joined them. i forget what we were fighting, dralls i think (**edit** them anyway) and they all got beat down while i was plugging away and healing myself til the fight was over. after their incpacities wore off they were telling me "Wow you are super powerful man".i was like "awww shucks, hehe twernt nuthin". course we all know now that the animals/npcs etc were easier to kill back in beta so we could advance faster and test out professions etc.

Traps, I use 3; p-dart, the combat defense debuff and root. those with mask scent and warning shot and im golden against them big turtle shell behemoths.

That was my combo at low level marksman. At the mid-level Rifleman and a Swordsman and after getting all of the traps tree I find it more efficient to pull a bleed sequence, perhaps a single headshot3 and then headhit (sword) one or 2 times. First, most things can't stand up to that. Second, I need the creature away from it's friends or the "Lair of Doom" set of Wrix's nearby thatI still can't quite solo. Now, spending the time on traps actually slows me down.

I still use them on some things, but I would use a trap you could lay in front of you for the assistive ones. Lay them down around your shoot, peace, escape and tab what comes. I USED to do supress sometimes for that (only pistol is fast enough) but if I could throw P-Darts fast enough I would have prefered to use them.

Always a problem when you are "bait" but that can be an asset if you are careful.

Lol YP, same thing happened to me, had me rolling off my chair.

I am (just for giggles and pistol xp) taking on rogue bagerasets (sp). Anyhow, its more like prone rifle, kneeling pistol, health shot, body shot, pdart, glow wire, shoot shoot, harvest. Sometimes, I never leave the prone if I am maskscented/camo'd and about 50m out.

Anyhow, lil novice ranger boy, with his wire mesh sees me. He takes aim and pops a round out of his CDEF (but it was sliced) rifle from standing at 30m. Three seconds later, poor lad is deader than dead. I could not get to him as I was involved and he goes away.

As ya guessed, 30 secs later, I get a tell. I explain, son, this is a T21, sliced, doing 300 and then some per hit. The pistol is a sliced and diced DX, they do not have resistantce to acid. I am trapping my butt off with real traps, I am scentmasked, and camo'd.

His reply, and I quote "That's too much work, to make all the traps and stuff" Sigh, I wished him well in his new career as a dancer and went about my merry way.

I love the lazy, they give you their stuff when they quit and go back to whatever they played before

- Ah yes, same thing happened in myNovice Ranger days

- I was fighting Bolle Bol bare handed (I love those non-assistive "little" critters), and was approached by a Novice Scout attempting to figure out crafting.

- After I had finished off my critter, I stopped and taught him about harvesting hide, and about purchasing inorganics off the bazaar (he was working on some Stim-A apparently).

- So I wander off, only to turn around and see him charge one of the other Bolle Bol head on. My medic companion could only watch as the Bolle obliterated the poor boys mind pool.

- Ah well, live and learn I guess. I'm sure he checks the /consider colors now before firing.

Fafnir:

Personally I always pull the phecnacine dart as my first attack. If it's a dangerous critter I throw at 40 - 49 meters, then a glowire. I always throw traps one at a time to make sure the phecnacine takes affect. rollshot and healtshot1, healtshot2, and then stand and let the gun do the work without specials draining my action pool. If I'm really nervous about the creature's speed and danger I'll throw adhesive mesh when I think the p-dart is almost dead, because p-darts only work one at a time and sometimes the animal will break the snaring effect and charge you. Then more phecnacine after mesh. If a trap fails (I've had up to 4 fail in a row) I use suppression, warning shot, running, etc, until I land a good trap again.

Adhesive mesh works good for me but it's not economical and better for a backup than primary.

Also, don't quote me on this, but I'm under the impression that phecnacine slows the critters attack speed as well as movement. Anyone have feedback on that?

And also I thought Dalyrakes were supposed to be awesome meat with super flavor. But when I got some (they were fat and healthy) the flavor was like 400. Anyone know if I should be looking for a special dalyrake, or was that a fluke?
