Thread: It's official: I'm pathetic. How do you fish?
You're not pathetic because you don't know how to fish... you're pathetic because you WANT to know how to fish.
Just kidding.
You need a fishing pole (obviously), some bait (use the /forage command to get some by chance or check on bazaar), then stand by the water and type "/fish".
You will get feedback on what's happening and you are given actions to perform.
My advice is this:
Fish on one of the "adventure" planets such as Dantooine or Lok. They typically have bodies of water with little or no vegetation and very high fish density ratings.
When it comes to which actions to perform I just use "Tug Left" or "Tug Right" until I get a nibble. Then as soon as I get a nibble I tug in the same direction and keep doing so until I get a "Bite!".
Once you get a bite your job is done... sort of. You will try to reel in the fish (this is done automatically) and whether or not you actually reel it in seems pretty random. To help the odds I always wade into the water right up to where the bobber is. Kind of like going to the fish instead of waiting for the fish to come to me. It works nicely for me.
Left something out...
Drag the bait on top of the fishing pole in your inventory to bait the hook.
Rysc,
There's a great how-to on Fishing over on the Scout forums.

Fish get pretty good cr/per as it should. I am working up Frontieering and fish while I camp. I may get 100 per hour if im lucky and I sell them for 20/per easily. It is boring but it does net you between 50 -120 survival XP per catch. There are also a few tricks that make it go a little faster but being only a Novice Ranger and seeing that this is a very ethic driven profession I have been reluctant to use themuntil I find it to be an acceptable practice.
