Thread: Tip for a scout in need
Imon Talus right now.. long story short, friend told me to come here, go to Deric then set a waypoint for the northern city.. that's all I heard, besides it's great for scout XP.. does anyone know of a good spot? (not a newb [I guess] have Pistols IV) Thanks in advance
-Oogs
I am confused, a good spot for what? Is there a particular reason you are running between cities. The onlyPOI i can think of is the cave that is in the general direction of your path.

Newbie Solo Scout Tutorial (Or, do it the easy way cuz Yp did it hard)
I assume you are novice marksman.
If you have 100 credits get Novice Medic.
With your CDEF equipped, find a mission terminal. Take cheapest job you can find, like kreetles on Tatooine. Take two in same direction to save the running.
Now, leave city and find the newbie mobs outside city. They're always there. On Tat they're lesser womprats, worrts, and maybe a rockmite (toughest thing).
Shoot these animals and take same type of resources from each one so you stack good amounts. With a little experimenting you'll find best stuff. For hides you want Overall Quality, Meat you want OQ and Flavor, and bone OQ. Kill all newbie animals and harvest them. Then go to mission.
Kill and harvest. Fighting will be so slow that you can probably /tenddamage on yourself to get health and action back up because low mobs don't target your mind. Finish both missions, go back to base. On way in kill the newbie mobs that respawned.
Benefit of this instead of running city-to-city is you're getting credits.
If you harvest random stuff from random animals your bones, meat and hide stacks will be a lot of random stuff that's hard to sell. Try getting 50 units in one container, then sell for 4 credits / unit to start. Write down what you put on bazaar with price and if it sells, up the price next time. Keep upping price until it doesn't sell, then drop back down to selling price. Sales are determined by what customers are willing to pay, not by what you think they are worth.
Get missions, kill newbie animals outside town, finish missions, and find players to train you as you advance. If you see scout, ranger, or any ranged fighter they will probably teach you if you ask which is cheaper than paying the NPC trainer. Always try to give a tip, for scout / marksman / medic stuff tip 100 - 500.
Lepercine dart: This is novice scout dart. It makes target dizzy. If animal is lying down when you start combat, throw it on them. If the dart takes, the animal can't get on its feet for a short time while you shoot it. Dizzy only makes you fall if you try to change position from prone, kneeling, or standing while dizzy. If animal is not laying down don't bother, unless you dizzy it then use suppression fire.
That's about it for now. GL! Oh yeah, once you scrape together 1000 credits go and clone yourself. It's always worth it.

Guys,
Oog is looking for tips on gaining Scout XP on Talus, specifically, I believe.
If he just wanted general tips, I would have suggested that he read my two guides, stickied to the top of the Scout forum.
Does anyone know anything about the Talusian wildlife to help Oog out? Unfortunately, I don't, and neither do many of the Scouts, it appears.
B
Oog.
Tortors on Talus give great xp. Also Foaming vynocks and aren't to bad to deal with. You can find many of these about 2k metters west of deric.
ILiado Master Scout/Ranger 0-2-1-1
Same on Eclipse and probably every server. I think you mean NW of Coronet, not Corellia, btw... NW of an entire planet?

Man, I don't know what your friend was talking about. I've spent a bit of time on talus and find it too empty creature wise for good scouting xp. I ran around the country side for a couple of hours yesterday and on the few occasions I found a camp it was a bunch of npc's not mobs. My suggestion would be to head back to corellia and run around the mountains to the northeast of kor vella toward the agrilat crystal swamps. Another good area is the riverlands northeast of Tyrena and northwest of corellia. This is on ahazi of course so unless your in the same galaxy it's more than likely different.
I am not quite clear on what you are asking either, but I spent a good portion of my ranger life living on Talus and having a blast.
There are three "cities" on Talus: Imperial (N), Restuss (NE), and Daeric (SE). There is a rather large no-build zone in Talus generally, so many people find this discouraging. As a scout, you shouldn't find this to be too much of a problem, though. Missions from Daeric are often 2k out. Restuss is notable for the ranger trainer and just generally pretty scenery. I despise Imps, so I don't visit there much ![]()
There is a lot of big game to be had on Talus, you just need to know where to find it. Yes, you will be running around quite a bit. Some of the larger items are Torturs and Huf Duns. Be very careful around the sludge panthers. Vynocks, rock/decay mites, and flits are all very social, if not too difficult to kill. The hide off the rock mites is generally in demand and will provide a decent profit. As on most starter planets, the paralope population is quite booming, and wooly hide is always a nice bonus. I spent a good amount of time just running SW on the map, hitting the "end of the world", and running back to Daeric. I netted great xp too.
There are quite a few POIs on Talus. Perhaps your friend was suggesting you head to the Panther City? It is a failed farming community overrun by our sludge panther friends. There is a cave full of vynocks and mites of all varieties, a few npc POI, and battlefields. Discovering these areas is half the fun.
Creature Handlers like Talus for the robas (which can be quite deadly) and the panthers.
In general, I found Talus to be a gem of good xp, low population, and exploration opportunities.
It is hard to get more specific without knowing what you are looking for and your skills...
