I've read a lot of conflicting things about this skill, mostly that it's a really nice and fast way to get yourself killed. So my question is, how much is it actually used?

I ask because for I tried to use it today for the first time. Of course, by the time I got to the person, they were incapped anyway.

Which brings me to my next question, what's the usage range on it?

Pre-nerf it seemed to work at about 10-15 m from your intended target. You pretty much "had to be there", not over the hill and around the corner but I can target...

Now, who knows, I think I have used it once... during PvP, and it worked sorta kinda as I "rescued" a buddy and went into 6 million dollar man mode and ran out of range of the baddy, letting my buddy cap him. I was literally standing next to my buddy. I don't use it in PvE, if there are two of us we seesaw the beast, one fires, then the other,and the beast stands there and takes it (works on Jedi...hint hint hint). Works great as long as you are in opposite directions.

It was way more fun pre-patch, when you could steal marks from BHs. Alas, the BHs cried and we got nerfed. Sigh.... Raise your hand if you remember being "A Cleaner" that "the Guild" sent.

/rescue works sometimes, but it is an easily forgotten ability. With creatures, just toss a snare trap and tell the guy to run.

It also doesn't work on pets

I sadly agree... I have the /taunt command and it works considerably better at pulling critters off my group members.

If /rescue worked as well as /taunt then I would interested in using the skill more often.

I don't use rescue a lot but when I do it seems to work,

I used it tonight and 3 creatures aggroed me and ignored their target, again, why do I want that? I don't know... guess we are meant to out run them?

I still say we should have the chance to "calm" a non-aggro creature after resue suceeds..

At current I am at -3500 Imp Faction Points and are trying to attack rebels in a neutral state to gain IMP FP. Do you know if the /rescue ability will create a TEF on a rebel attacking a friend, in which case I can then attack the rebel which I normally can not.
