Thread: Oh, Oh! Antarian Rangers and Jedi idea...

After reading the cool "history" about the Antarian Rangers and how they supported the Jedi, and reading a few posts now and then about how there is really not much a Ranger can do that someone else can't.... It hit me that it would be pretty cool if a Jedi could only group with players who had the Ranger skill.

I have heard folks complain about "group TEF" in reguards to Jedi vs BH. If the only folks Jedi could group with were Rangers... the Jedi would likely seek out Rangers for help when out and about. It would also give the BH a bit more of a "chance", where the way it is now, they feel they have no hope since a Jedi normally is grouped with a full "guild" of players.

I think it would make for a great role play opportunity, and something really unique to the Ranger profession that is based on an established Star Wars role playing storyline.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Cool idea, or am I reaching too far?

Hey man any idea that gives us Rangers something more to do is a good idea... but yea thats reaching a bit too far.

BH's need HELP?!? Methinks you're about to hear the dread cry of JBMatt. I'd recomend you run...now.

Seriously, why would a Jedi want US around, except Role Playing reasons. and that's just not enough reason. Also, a BH would eat through most Rangers, since we're not a combat class and have no unique weapons or attacks of our own.

I like things that give Rangers more of a role but this...this...just isn't a quality idea. I'm sorry, but until we get some decent skills, we're more of a hinderance to a Jedi, since if no ones there to see them, it's easier on them. Maybe when /sneakAttack is implemented we could form a protective ring...but still, if BH's are complaing that killing a Jedi is too HARD, cry me a river right here and right now. They're Jedi. They're supposed to be hard. And if you want to complain about having a whole guild attack you, maybe you need get some friends to help. If you don't have any, make some. If you're in a guild...go guild on guild...

other than that, I can't say that Rangers would really help or that Bounty Hunters need any help.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

The only issue I have is that (as has been stated in many other threads...not flaming, just giving props to the info provided in the past) the Antarian Rangers were memebers of all classes. Having Ranger in the title does notmean that they were all OUTDOORSMEN (that's for you Nraas). Plus since they are relatively few of us rangers, and we have no combat skills per se, this would not work out well for the Jedi. And BH do not need any help killing things.

hehe, well as far as the BH needing "help"... I was just going off of the many whine posts I have read about entire guild groups and group TEF... blah, blah.

Just a quick note about the "rangers can't provide any help"... well that was what got me thinking about this. You don't have to spend all your points on Ranger, so most players who are rangers are also some combat class or another. Any player could potentially "help" a Jedi by keeping look out for whats going on and such like that... it would just be cool if there were something in place to make a Ranger somehow more valuable as the one the Jedi would pick.

Another thing that crossed my mind is maybe the most valuable skill would be tracking... but as we know with vehicles, it just would not be quick enough to "see" an approaching BH. Now if Rangers had some special relationship with Jedi (and thus BH) perhaps we would make the best buddy for a Jedi.

What if instead of using track in this instance, a Ranger could somehow see through the make non searchable option on characters, for BHs. So Mr BH comes to Lok with a Jedi mission.... Jedi is hunting with a few Rangers posted as look outs. The Rangers keep a check on /who is in the area. After a bit they see a BH pop up a couple k meters away, and can keep tabs on him to see if he is getting closer. If he breaches the "comfort" distance everyone hops on speeders and the Jedi gets off the planet as fast as possible.

I do understand those of you who hate the idea, but still wanted to share it. A girl can dream can't she?

Phenix, Phenix,Phenix... BHs do need help. From qualified teachers, mental health experts, and frontal lobotomists. Reverse order of precedence too.

Personally, I would rather gargle Sarlacc bile than help a BH, with very very very few exceptions. (1 right now as a matter of fact).

BHs have armor, weapons out the ying yang, more specials than KMart, don't walk out the door unless they are buffed and spiced, and you want to give the BH help in killing a Jedi by making them (Jedi) easier to find.

A pox upon that idea. Let them stoopid lil man hunters wander the wilds til their armor rusts and they die of boredom. Most will stay lost, they can't read a map and are too fired up to remember to make a waypoint. I had one ask me where town was... you could see the freaking towers from where I was standing, and he was closer.

What we really need is to get the BHs out of scouting totally.

Well... considering that "Rangers" in SWG are nothing like the Antarian Rangers of the SW EU, I'm not even sure why they even exist.

But limiting Jedi any more than they already are is a bad idea anyway.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

mmm no, actually my idea had nothing to do with making Jedi easier to find... and more to do with way to make them harder to find, with the help of a Ranger. /shrug

Perhaps the /conceal action could be usefull if it prevented a BH from tracking a Jedi...?... or am I having another pipe dream.

Ok, I am confused.

You want the Jedi to be able to group only with Rangers.

That makes them easier to find. Any BH with half a brain... oh wait, they all have half brains... anyhow, all they need to do is ask for help in typing out a search for Rangers, find someone to get them to where the Ranger is, then they can see if a Jedi was there. I get tells from across the planet, if other professions can find me, maybe a BH or two could too. Well, with some help maybe.

Way easier than it is now. Unless I missed something there.

Only way you can really tell a Jedi now, no badges for professions and they ain't noob looking. Well, that and the light saber, that's a dead giveaway. Usually anyhow.

If I missed something there, clue me in...please

Yes, this was semi-tongue-in-cheek... as was the first.
