Thread: Frontiering Ideas
A Ranger should be able to live off the land right? Well, as it is, all that mainly consists of is foraging for some mostly useless food buffs, and making camps that each patch makes less and less useful. However, I had some ideas that would improve both of those.
Foraging:Frontiering 1 Is already titled Advanced Foraging Techniques, which adds the chance of finding a Rare item. But, what Id like to see is to be able tospecifically forage for certain items, whether it be for Baitor Food, and also give them the ability to forage for Organic "Food" Resources like Wheat, and Water, and such.
Fishing: Its in the game, and other then for some people rarelyneeding fish, not that useful, since as far as I know, no profession has any kind of fishing bonuses. I think that a Ranger should get some bonuses to fishing, and be able to forage or craft some really good bait as well.
Bandages: While not a Medic either, they should have a little first aid skill, even if its not in actual healing, but being able to make a bandage to stop bleeding would be a useful skill.
Campfire Meals: To make all thatstuff more useful, there should be some recipes in the Rangers Frontiering tree to make food buffs that are better then what you could forage for.A Ranger is not a cook, but when your living in the wild you still would need some cooking skill to live, so give them some recipes, and make them only craftable when in a camp. They would not be as good as a Chef's food buffs, but they should be relativly simple to make when your out in the field and need a a decent inexpensivefood buff before tackling some big game. Most recipes would call for food items that are foraged for, to make foraging more useful.
I think having more skills that would actually make use of wilderness survival XP, and/or make camps more useful, would help make the Ranger a more fun class to play, especially when grinding the Frontiering tree. Being able to cook some decent buffs in the field would make them more appealing to the group, though it wouldnt be something mass produced and sold like Chef food or spices, and being only made in camps, meant to be made on the spot when your out hunting. And Fishing just makes sense to be tied into the scout and/or ranger skills trees.
Foraging and fishing, yes. Good ideas, or at least get em working like they should.
Bandaids andcooking - no. We infringe on other professions. No flame, but this has been hashed and rehashed (small pun there) to death, and the consensus was we would be butting in on the medics and chefs.

I've said this before, but no harm in repeating it....
I think that eating should be a requirement in SWG. All characters should have to eat at least something every now and again.
This would create a market for foraged food, bartenders, Chefs etc etc, and not just at the high buff level but at all levels. Novice Chefs coul make a living selling basic "stay alive" food whilst the more professional masters could deal with the buffing food's. A Scout / Ranger could offer a bite to eat to his group whilst in a camp for example. Something that I do now actually but it is only the CH's that ever take the offer if they have forgotten about the needs of their pets.
I try to avoid giving anything to Wookies as the sound of them eating is not nice to say the least...!!
