Thread: To All Those Ranger Guilds...

Okay I have to start off by saying that I formed a supposedly ranger guild on Kauri last Sunday. The name? Well I went for the quick and easy ImpSec Rangers because you can't have "Imperial" in your guild name. But I digress, okay so I started it off with the thought in mind that I would keep it as true to the "canon" Imperial Sector Rangers as possible. I as the guild leader would have been the Director of Operations, but again you can't have Director in your guild title, I don't know why, so instead I am the Coordinator of Operations. I then set up four divisions in the guild (Ter, OrgCrim, Patrol and Pirate Brigades). Now when it came to getting the roles of Lieutenant filled I quickly found out that I was just about the only unguilded Imperial ranger on Kauri, so instead of requiring at least Novice Ranger for the positions of the Brigade Lieutenants it was opened up to whoever was up to the job. In the end I havethe ImpSec Rangers with only one Ranger (yours truly).

Keep in mind that I'm not complaining the whole thing is coming along smoothly and I am pleased with our progress over the past three days, so I was wondering, how do you other Ranger guilds do it? I hear about the 488th LEB and the Antarian Rangers, but how many rangers do you guys have? Are other servers swarming with Rangers? I find it hard to believe that Kauri is so devoid of Rangers while other servers are teeming with them. I'm not trying to knock the idea of a Ranger guild because I like the idea, but what is the average number of Rangers in these "Ranger" guilds? Any responses would be very much appreciated.

Farstar is not teeming with them by any means, we are very rare indeed. Very, very rare. I think I have met 4. (Excluding Holo-monkeys naturally)

You only have to read a few of the posts in this forum to understand why really though.

Ranger is a attitude as much as anything else, our skills are less than grand. So, those players who want the skills to compete effectivly against Mobs or PVPeither move on or dont go Ranger in the first place, those, like us, with the Rangerattitude stay.

Here's a thought. I'm willing to bet that the majority of"professional"Rangers started as Rangers. It was the result of a decesionbased possibly on little more knowledge of what the SWG Ranger was going to be other than the word Ranger. I know that's how it was for me.

Was it like that for you..?

I feel your pain. At this time, I may be one of only two or threemaster rangers on the Kettemoor server. As for the Antarian Rangers, they are more of a secret society that is spread over several servers, most of themwith no formal PA. Most of the members are already part of more diverse PAs and live all over the galaxy. Their own formal PAs may not even know they are an Antarian Rangers.

Well I have a ranger group but we are not a formal PA, and we plan to keep it that way. We are an organization of rangers, the Rangers of Bria (RoB). Our group take orders of high quality resources, find where they are, and hunts for it in mass. We organize these hunts with our members, and have 4 Hunt Masters that organize them and lead them. We then have all hunters harvest, and buy it from them at the price we are getting from the customer. So we can sell large amounts of resources to our customers.

Most of us are already guilded, and that is part of why we are not a guild. Also, this is just for hunting, gathering, and having fun as rangers. No one is committed to anything, and can come and go as they wish. We have a few members that dropped ranger but still have scout. Rangers are not in high numbers on our server, a little scarce really. This group makes for us to have fun at what we do, and get training more easily.

I think maybe why you are finding so many rangers guilded, is because ranger is a support profession. A lot of people don't have ranger as their main motion of play, but rather some added skills and abilities to use once in a while. So they are likely guilding with their main motion of play.

There are very few unguilded or non-holo hunting Rangers on Starsider these days, however I have 2 rangers plus myself in a Fire Team within the 488. I find more by keeping an eye on this board, and also who asks for training etc. I keep in touch with them if they seem to like role play, I'll mention about the Ranger squad within the 488 and take it from there.

Honestly I may get one or two more, and that would be great, but I expect to be where I am at. Originally the requirement for the (Sector) Ranger Squad was Master Ranger, it's since been dropped to Novice, and the only skill required to master is tracking. To support the Ranger structure, riflemen have been combined with them to form a fairly formidable combination.

Pitty you aren't on Starsider, you'd have a job if you wanted it. And if any of you starsider rangers that are imperial want into a guild with the infrastructure to support you etc, contact me in game. The name is same as in my sig.

Actually, I did the reverse of what you are doing. I set up the organization assuming there would be no actual guild with the hall. After enough rangers joined a hall "magically" appeared. I would work out your organization first as a contact list of friends that also are in other guilds. I have found that those rangers are a tad bored with their current guild and cross over sometimes after a few hunts . Use the rangerness to it's fullest and group hunt as often as you can stand it and sell the harvest. Pretty soon there is a core of hunters the others know to contact for some action and it grows from there.

Deal I came up with is one person or two make the deals with merchants and organize the hunts. That guy buys all the harvest from the others and then delivers and sells the larger stack to the merchant. The way the game has harvest set up you get larger stacks this way the more hunter/harvestors that you have. Everyone makes money.
