Thread: 'Milking' Concept in next publish... ?

I have heard that this right now is going to be possible for the scouting profession? I would like a confirmation on this.. also, I want to raise the discussion of why it seems the devs refuse to help differentiate scouts from Rangers? As a Master Ranger, I really do not find that ANY of my scouting abilities are enhanced to a great deal. Tracking is fun for finding pets, sometimes for Jedi, but all in all not the most useful skill. Trapping is not really effective, and /conceal essentially (in my opinion) has little or no use. Also, I find that my "harvesting bonus" is not significant enough to distinguish me from someone with scouting skills (ie: I harvest 57 meat from a kill, my friend who has scout harvests 45).

Whatis bothering me is that Milk is a very valuable resource, not just the rarity (which Ichanging in next patch and I agree with), but its uses are still for prettyhigh lvl materials (CH taming cloths ect). So I dont understand why the Devs wouldnt make it an ability for Rangers? It would definitely make Milk not as rare, and also serve to give Rangerssomething that will help make the profession seem more worthwhile. I have been aMaster Ranger for about 3 weeks now, and have found that the amount of skill points required to Master does notreflect the additional skills Ihave.

Anyways, I am just making a push tohelpthe Ranger profession get a better identity, and granting us the ability to milk over scouts would behelp that goal.

I think what we are running into here is the following...

Milk is way too rare and way too valuable, especially since the BE modifications.

The Devs have POOPED on the Ranger profession to make it worthless in many peoples view, so many leave the profession or refuse to go there.

Milk is now becoming available via a patch, but they won't have anyone to milk the animals. (See previous)

So they give it to Scouts.

Hmmmm

Im not really excited about this one, why?

Because I fear that rangers will soon be looked at as nothing more than PC harvesters, insert money in us and off we go collecting, eggs, milk, butter, salt, meat.....(mmmm now im hungry for an omelet)

If we are to be taken seriously as a profession, we need to be more than just moving harvesters.

Fitz,

I had the exact same reaction as you. Oh cool! more fish! more milk! more eggs!... for scouts!

I understand that their goal is to make all this stuff available primarily to chefs who are getting a bunch of stuff this upcoming release. I just wish that when they are making these tweaks that they would keep in mind the balancing issues, namely that we are supposed to be "super scouts" and do "everything they can do, we can do better"... only we can't

I think we are all missing something here.

People sniveled about "forced into scout to use camps to call pets/vehicles/droids." The Doofi.... uhhh.... DEVs are fixing that. So people will drop scout. Less scouts.

I can see where Scouts are gonna be semi-rare.

Cool, we can milk, and BEs and Chefs want it. Fine, 100cpu. Or go blow 15 skill points on a skill you use for dairy farming. Like anything else, we got it, they need it. And with all the grinders, we can get about any price we want.

Embrace the change, a lot of dabblers will leave.... now if we can get scouting out of the BH line and send those clowns packing my day would be complete.

Well truthfully I think that you are missing the point of my post. The main concern here is that there is not enough differentiation in the skills of Scout and Ranger, in respect to /maskscent and creature harvesting. As a Ranger everyone just 'expects' that I harvest MUCH more of resources than a scout with the hunting tree... and in reality the difference is not significant at all! On my boards when a good resource comes out everyone who wants it always is bidding to the 'Rangers' to go out when in fact they should only be speaking to anyone with combat skills and one scout tree cause they will harvest more than I will per hour 10 fold. Second, maskscent is the only thing I use, and I find that the whole /conceal business is a waste of time. 95% of things I deal with are creatures and it doesnt work against them. So my point is that I personally see alot of value to the scouting profession AS IS. That doesnt mean that I dont think there is room to help improve the Scouting profession.. but if you are going to make an extremely valuable resource harvestable, then I dont see why Rangers wouldnt be the profession for that.

If you compared harvesting resources to combat skills, shouldnt the best ones be for those who spend the most points on it? Its like giving a flamethrower to Marksmen instead of Commando.. ? All in all alot of professions need help/tweaking in order to make them useful.. Ranger is one of them.. and arguably, Scouting needs alot of help as well. But I feel its much more important to help rectify the problems in the Elite professions before you revamp a Starter profession. I feel this way because everyone can get starter professions, and 95% of people move on PAST the starting profession to something else, and that is where my most valuable skill pt dispersion goes.. so again, why is a really valuable resource harvesting ability going to scouts and not Rangers? I am sure they will make us able to harvest more.. but I can see where that will go.. Scout: "You harvested 29 milk!" Ranger: "You harvested 31 milk!" yay! 63 skill pts for +2 milk!

Hmmmm......very valid point. Anyone else agree with this?

btw....there is just something disturbing about the Master of the Outdoors sidling up, kneeling and miliking an animal.

This won't help us. If there are such scout dabblers who blew 15 skill point just to be able to use tents (and I'm not doubting there are a few such people) those are not the types who would have fished or milked anyway. And the rest of the scouts will stay, and there will continue to be a ton of them.

I wouldn't assume that at all. We don't havest more fish than scouts do we? I still get single unit fish skins all the time.

Still....

I want a screenshot of a Master Bounty Hunter with his stool and pail gently coaxing some milk out of a critter...heheheh

I think that most of the scout dabblers will completely ignore this skill and continue to do whatever they do.

I do agree however, that a ranger should really empty that udder compared to a few squirts from the scout
