Thread: Master Scout vs Master Ranger in terms of harvesting...

Has any actual in game research been done on the difference between harvesting capabilities of 50 vs 100 harvesting skill? If not, I can get my RL friend to help me and get some numbers from in game harvesting this weekend. My friend is a BH, so he's got master scout and I'm a master ranger so we can harvest off of the same creature spawns to get hard numbers as to what I'm pulling vs what he's pulling. Of course, if this has been done before I won't bother, but if it hasn't, then I'll see if I can get him to do it and then I'll come post the results Sunday night or Monday morning.

So let me know if you guys are interested in the info.

Please do post your results.

Keep in mind that the "percent difference" may flucuate depending on CL of the creature. The harvesting equation is apparently not a simple linear system.

Namely, as the amount of harvest from a creature increases, the difference between a Master Scout and Master Ranger will decrease.

Because of this, the actual raw data per creature would be extremely beneficial (including the CL of the creature that was harvested).

But if that is too much work, the final average numbers will be fine as a guideline as well.

Not a problem. One question, does your harvest yield change if you harvest first or second? Meaning we kill a creature. I harvest hide first and then he harvests hide. Will our yields be the same if he harvests first and then I harvest? If it changes, we'll just alternate who harvests first on each spawn.

I'll keep track of the following information for each individual harvest.

creature name, resource type harvested, units harvested, health of the creature, and Diff level as stated in the Examine window with my spiffy 100 creature knowledge.

If I can get my hands on some veghash, then I'll have us use that at times so we can compare what happens at master scout + veghash and master ranger + veghash (veghash is the creature harvest mod food, right?)

Good question. As far as I know, the order in which the group harvests should not affect the final result.

It's a simple one to check mind you. Simply kill two identical creatures from the same lair, and harvest in a different order... The total harvest from both creatures should be the same.

"veghash is the creature harvest mod food, right?"

Correct. Make sure neither of you have any Harvesting enhancements (the Trandoshan harvesting bonus for instance), as that will also skew the results.

you dang lizards.

his results will be slighty higher then, I forgot he was a reptile. So we'll just be checking Master Ranger vs Master Trando-Scout. lol

we can do that too, but NRaas has stated before that it's a 40% decrease for grouping. So we can pretty much already tell what the results of the grouping vs non-grouping are going to be.

My experiences suggest a Master Ranger harvests about 30% more than a PC with Hunting IV. I would therefore expect a slightly smaller advantage over a Master Scout.

Well, my friend didn't really feel like playing this weekend, so no experiments were run. Maybe sometime this week.

Bah... I hope you skinned him for his insolence, and made a nice throw rug.

Sometime later then.

I would like to see the grouped vs. ungrouped numbers ... I happened to notice the other day that as new people joined the group (think it was around 7 in all with 2 pets in group) my harvest per creature did not seem to go down. I didn't notice this until I was about to leave so don't quote me on it, I may have been confused.

Annoyingly, in that group (which was purely to collect leathery hide) we were all comparing harvests to see the difference veghash was making (+5 hides per person on bolle bols), it would have been trivial for me to note down the figures and ability level of the people in group but I didn't think of it.

In a group you get 60% of the harvest you'd have when solo. Groupsize does not matter there as you correctly noticed.

This is why I try to get more people to group and co-op on hunts. More peeps in the group the more harvest there is... each critter has just "magicaly" gotten bigger

The problem has been, however, the corpse will vanish 30 seconds after the first /loot or /harvest and you have to be a coorinated group to get the most out of it. Some peeps are not that patient
