Stop with all the fancy schmancy ideas...

Go back to square one, make the DEVS fix the profession and make it work as INTENDED since day one.

Make every current piece of the tree work.

Make terrain negotiation worth something.

Make camps actually do something.

Add some traps, fix the broken ones.

Make a master ranger harvest a significant amount more than master scout.

Make camo worthwhile (I dont EVER want to be seen if I;m a Master! it should almost NEVER break at master!)

Etc.

Fix what you have NOW, the devs DO NOT have time to look into all the new proposals (even if they are good suggestions)

Dump the outdoorsman, fix the initial intended ranger.

Once the basic ranger is fixed, you can suggest module camp, shuttleport tents with sharks with lazer beams and ghuillie suits and A bombs and all the other crazy ninja stuff.

Dont overwhelm the devs or you will get 1 new thing and 20 broken things will remain unfixed.

Refocus regroup

Certainly, but what's to fix? We need enhancements to what we have.

Make every current piece of the tree work.

Yes, please.

Yes, please, but I am not sure which are actually broken....are there any?

Lol. Seriously, perhaps we may need to start by asking for lsight tweaks, and leave the fancy alone for a bit.

Underpowered....not broken.

Refocus regroup

You may be on to something here.

ok...

lets get some specific ideas thrown around. What would you delete from the outdoorsman, what would you add?

Flynn,

your post seems to contradict itself. Which are you proposing? Scrapping the existing ranger skillset or "fixing" it? I think most of the skills *are* working as intended, it's just that someone with out a clue did the "intending". Personally I'm much more in favor of doing what the title of your post says... starting from scratch and re-thinking what it is that would make rangers an "outdoorsman", or in my particular case, a "hunter". I think the weakness of the current system and most current proposals is that it stubbornly clings to the idea of

terrain nav/conceal - camping - harvesting - traps

When what we really should be doing is thinking of new ways to achieve the ultimate goal: making rangers pve studs.

Let us not forget that the Outdoorsman proposal was not something of our own initiatve - true, it does contain many ideas that we had cooked up prior to forming the proposal itself, but the proposal is a response to the devs' intentions of completely reinventing our profession, and removing any and all abilities that don't directly relate to killing creatures. The Outdoorsman proposal isn't about fixing our profession, it's about showing the devs what our vision of the profession is. Based on that vision, they'll do the fixing later, whether or not they include the specific suggestions included in the proposal.

Flynn,

While I agree with most of what you say I think we should leave it up to the devs to let us know what they can and can not do and then we the Ranger community should hold them too it. My biggest problem with the Devs is that we haven't been given in feedback on our proposals at all. I'm not willing to accept a piecemeal approach to the profession just for the sake of getting one or quick changes done. Sure if there are some things that they can do quickly then by all means go ahead but not at the cost of making this profession what it should be. First and for most I want to here some honest feedback from the devs on what they are willing or not willing to do.

Sorry, I'm just at work, can't really focus.

If I had to answer your question, the answer would be fixing the existing skill set,

and when I say "fix" it doesn't mean something has to be 100% not working.

The item could be 100% not working, partially working, underpowered, in need of a tweak, in need of a few more additions (traps), in general need to be made more attractive (why bother setting up a HTFB now?)

I have been a Master Ranger since launch, probably one of the first 10 on these boards, I dropped after like 5 months out of sheer boredom and frustration...

I have read almost every post from Mineras's reign and N'raas's time and they are just starting to repeat now, over and over and over and over, the SAME issues STILL haven't been fixed...

I am a Ranger at heart and would like to come back someday, when it's right...

I'm gonna scan the skill tree and make a detailed submission so the new correspondant can work from it.

My point of this thread was to refocus people on the old issues, because as intended, the Ranger profession isn't bad at all, we just need to get existing skills juiced up a little...

Boost harvesting rate, add a few traps to the line (area root anyone?), make camo work better, give camps better healing rates, fix rescue (LOL), no seriously...
