No no no and no to waypoints.

This has been beaten to freaking death. I am the chief beater. Welcome to my newest beatee, prepare for flames.

No waypoints for areatrack. You are a Ranger, if you can't read your compass, you need to find a new profession. Besides, the creatures may be moving. What good is a waypoint that tells you where the creatures were?? It's not like you are on a different planet. Taking readings takes no HAM pts. Do it once, you get a general idea, the second reading homes me in.

Hint, waypoint where you started - have the waypoint indicator on your screen - control O, misc, you will see it - tells you how far ya been, cool huh?

As to your goofy idea, not bad. Would be cool.

I think a good compromise to this would be something similar to what Bounty Hunters have.

Say you do you initial Area Track and it brings up everything. Now you select 1 of the creatures/people and then click a button Track. The main windowdisappears and every 5 secs say a message appears indicating the range and direction (Similar to the way we are notified we are being stalked). You do this until you type the command /canceltrack.

I apologise if this idea has already been raised before.

This profession does need a fresh infusion of fun, thats for sure. JBMat is right though. You really don't need a wp. But sometimes when you are on your bike and trying to find something you can just drive right by it if you misjudge the distance. It would be nice if we got some kind of onscreen message that our prey is nearby. I like the idea of the holo chess. I think the camps could be a lot more interactive too. I would love to be able to actually go inside my stinkin tent! Kinda lame when it is raining, I throw down a High Tech Field Base Kit and the rain magically manages to go through the roof and still soak us. I like the idea of the sabacc and the holo chess. Any other games that we could play in the camps?

Then walk . I wouldn't mind a real time tracking system either.

Firstly

vehicles have made people in my server fat and lazy. They get on their speeders to traverse 200 meters.... pitiful.

as to the initial idea of a waypoint with areatrack: I am firmly against it. I dont want a waypoint, if one is implemented, i wont use it. The dynamic tracking of a sys message, is a little better, however, when i track something, i stop every 200m or so and redo /ar.

that avoids the need for a sys message. If that were implemented with the /track command (read wishlist, SoP, and thunderheart's post) that might be more appropriate.

Thanks for your feedback.

After thinking about it, I see JBMat's point and pretty much agree.

I think the main reason I even had the idea was because I was playing on another server where I don't have ranger skills and was running all over trying to find an NPC. I knew I would have cut the time to nothing if I had /areatrack. Then I started thinking that being able to narrow a search even more than we currently can would be a good incentive for people to pursue Master Ranger. Although I enjoyed working toward it for the current rewards, I'm not sure the Master payoff is all that compelling for most people.

I'm also glad to see that others like the idea of some frivolous fun made available in our camps. I just realized, introducing some sort of wagering system could provide use for all the varieties of chance cubes in the game.

It's been a long time since I've played or been around, and as usual forum search isn't working, so I don't know if similar things have already been mentioned, but here are 2 ideas I have for enhancing ranger abilities. One idea is kind of goofy, and I know that the practical/broken things are where devs should be spending their time, but thought it might help inspire some unique/fun ideas for down the road.

First, the "valuable" idea. As a Master Ranger perk, it would be nice if you could set a waypoint (maybe +/- a certain amount of accuracy, so some player work is still required) for an item in your areatrack list. Pretty self-explanatory.

Now the goofy idea. I've made a bunch of camping suggestions in the past that revolved around practical benefits, and thought I'd toss one out there just for the "fun" factor, and maybe some RP appeal. Unless you need to buff/heal at this point, there aren't a whole lot of reasons to camp, aside from XP grinding or alleged aggro protection if some people in the group need to go AFK for a bit. For the folks that aren't AFK, the game basically becomes little more than an IM client with a Star Wars skin.

There's nothing really bad with that -- many of the staples of group camping experiences I've had in real life involved hanging out around the fire, shooting the **edit**e. But to make the wait/chat time feel productive, how about incorporating some wager-oriented mini-games that the group can participate in, similar to the lugjack/jubilee games found in hotels? Maybe add new 3-D chess or sabaacc as mini-games. Ranger-level camps could contain scaled down models of the existing art ("table-top" versions). Maybe tweak the payouts, or only pay out from what everyone in the group contributes to the pot.

Anyway, those ideas just popped into my head and figured I'd share them... I guess it's pretty clear I don't want to be working today...
