Yes Bane, we should wait. Can we hold out that long? I don't know. I would love it we got a response immediately. I can't see them appointing a Correspondent before next week. Then another week or two to get any requests looked at. Then publish 8 goes live and publish 9 starts getting worked on. In the mean, we keep getting pushed back. I do like the Outdoorsman proposal, but I think it could use a tweak or two, I certianly don't think we want to rewrite it. I hope that whatever people decide to change about it, will still be in line with what it isnow. My actual poll was to see if there was reason to believe that Rangers still support it, and it seems we do, but with a few additions.

/agree. lets actuallly get our total revamp and changes, and hopefully the outdoorsman thing or close. Once we get it ALL changed and done, lets then do the tweaks.

Leave it as it is now, and go from there.

Darn you Bane. I know I would like to tweak the Outdoorsman proposal, but you make a lot of sense about waiting for the devs to respond. My initial crusade was to get us rallied to get the attention of the devs, and perhaps, I need to refocus on that. I strayed off on some personal ideas (i.e. a minor revamp of the Outdoorsman) insteading of staying the course to get some answers. I do think it is great to see some passion back in the forums. We were getting a little stale for a while, but I can see there is still life.

Calc,

I think the reason most Rangers are voting B in your thread including me is because no plan is perfect and there will always be one ore two things that we wouldlike to add or change but if tomorrow TH posted that they would accept the outdoorsman proposal and have it ready by May I would be one happy camper... pun intended ....

I agree. You can tweak an idea forever, but at some point you just need to be happy with it and accept what it is and it's potential faults. So would everyone be happy with the Outdoorsman proposal if TH came on tomorrow and said it is going through? I doubt most people would complain.

I disagree. What we need is to get it "right the first time". Becauseall we need to do is look at how the development cycles go. Look atbio engineers. They got a big release, lots of stuff wrong, but rather than correct any of that, the devs have moved on... to chefs. Chefs got a revamp that many of them are unhappy with. Unbalanced, buggy, and many of them thought it was better before, but the devs have moved on...to DE's. Oh man, don't even wanna go there. DE's got "their release" and it's not at all what they wanted. But too late, cause the devs have moved on. Let's not have this happen to us. Much better to get it "right" the first time.

I understand Goldmember, and i think i know what you are saying.

Visiting the other profession's forums, I really dont know how much input the players have with the ideas that the developers put into the game. After doing some research, i have yet to find a cohesive document like "the outdoorsman" that defines a profession by the players as to what they want their prof. to be.

Thunderheart said that he's seen our proposal and thats it. It wasnt a thumbs up or a thumbs down for the idea, however, I think that we are unique in the sense that we as a community got together and created this proposal from our own brains.

I would like to see stealth or a more fleshed out version of camouflage in our proposal...as do many... the trick is to make the stealth proposal within the bounds of the devs intent for the game.

I really hope that the outdoorsman is the model for our changes...hopefully, this will prevent any strange things from happening to our profession.

I agree that we should wait to see how the combat revamp takes shape. A lot is going to change between now and then, so I doubt that they are going to consider anything anyway, until it's all done. I read somewhere that our turn is coming so let's be a little more patient and hope for the best.

Goldmember- You've overexaggerated the responses to the changes of the proffessions you've mentioned, but your point is valid. We should do one of two things.

Get what we want a little bit at a time, not enough for the devs to turn their backs on us for a while, but enough to get stuff done.

Or

Advocate for exactly what we want and get it all just right when they first give it to us.

My feelings about this subject reposted from the vote to revamp:

We need to unite behind something solid. If it doesn't match all of our dreams, we're just going to have to live with it. Everyone's got their nitpicks or their suggestions, but the chances of us finding a consensus on exactly what we want changed are very small.

Consider the following scenarios:

1.I want changes to subject A, really badly. You want changes to subject B. I think Subject B is perfect, you think subject A is perfect.. However, we both agree that there are things we'd like to change.

2. You and I both really dislike subject C. I think subject C should be changed to be more creature-centric. You think subject C should be changed to be more PvP-centric. We disagree on how subject C should be changed, but we both agree that it should be changed.

3. You think subject D is too strong. I think subject D isn't strong enough. We disagree on which way the power level should go, but we agree that the current power level is wrong.

Now, take those situations and multiply them by.. How many people do we have in this community?

It's possible I could be wrong. It might be that the community as a whole can agree on certain changes.. But I highly doubt it. The Outdoorsman proposal is far from perfect.. But it's pretty damned good, or else most of us wouldn't want to keep it with some changes.

I must agree with the position to take the document as it stands (with minor changes once we get feedback).

Even though I think Ranger should be more of a stealthy, military-oriented profession, we arrived at a solid proposal as a community. It is along the lines of what the devs intend for us so there is a fair chance much of it will be incorperated down the road.

Not everyone will be happy with it and some will even leave the profession because it isn't their view of what a Ranger is. I dropped everything but tracking once I found out the devs' vision, but I still stand behind the proposal because it is a good one with the constraints we were given.

As for professions being unhappy with their revamps, design is unfortunately an iterative process. Creature Handlers were balanced and nerfed into oblivion. Bio-Engineers have a new system that has erratic results. Chefs, I don't know about their complaints. Droid Engineers are so far not enthused about their love and have a second patch coming. Combat professions are going to be next.

For all of our gripes though, I can guarantee those professions are better off than if they had been left alone. CH was being exploited horribly because there were no restrictions and high-end gear was not available. BE was simply non-functional. Chef was worthless. DE is getting improvements even if it won't be as big an overhaul as the others.

Eventually the new problems will be addressed. The question is whether people can hold out that long. But they will be returned to eventually if they can.
