I was reading all these posts about what rangers should be able to do. then it hit me... We should be able to cure poisons and diseases through stuff that we forage.. Remember LOTR?? Strider.. the ranger.. helps lessen frodos poison through plants that he finds where he is.

Remember that time in "con air" where Nicolas Cage kills a guy with just a punch? He was a Ranger! We should be able to do that too!!!!

/shout de-nerf teh ragner! de-nerf teh ragner! de-nerf teh ragner!

okay sorry for the rant/flame. I just sometimes get frustrated since this keeps coming up:

1) This is Star Wars. There are Army Rangers, there are Lord of the Rings Rangers....but neither really apply to this game, since it's a star wars games. Aragorn can't use a t-21...but the Rangers in this game can. Not to say that ideas can't come from other sources but if you want to play as a LOTR Ranger, there are games designed around doing just that. I've heard good things about them. For a Star-Wars game, the best sources for skills are probably the Star Wars universe. There are books that involve several Ranger groups.

2) Movies are movies. Games are games. In the movies, an Imperial officer sent probot droids to find a hidden Rebel base. Imperials can't do this in-game. In the movies, Jedi can kill people in one hit. Jedi's can't do this for obvious reasons in the game. There are a billion and a half things that happen in Star Wars movies that can't happen in the game. I won't even go into how many things happen in movies outside of Star Wars that Rangers can't do.

Removing Poison/DOT's has been proposed as a Ranger skill before many times. This isn't to say that it isn't "your" idea. I'm sure you didn't read this someplace else and then decide to do a new post and make it seem like it was your idea. All I'm saying is that yes, it's been proposed, but many people feel that it's stepping on the toes of both the Doctors and the Chefs and so it's been a hard shill. Keep pushing ideas...but mind the toes of the other profs. We try to remain polite around here. Except me. I rant and ramble and then apologize and then make a joke.

So...sorry about the flame earlier.

oh...and by "we" are you including yourself....'cause your sig says TKM/Commando. Just wondering- if you're new to our prof I realize I probably make a pitiful welcome commitee...but welcome (if you're a new Ranger) If you've been a Ranger a while, you should add that to your sig...I'm easily confused and I'll keep forgetting what forum I'm in...plus even as a TKM/Commando, you'll get more respect as a Ranger. gotten a lot of /bows with a Ranger tag.

you ever get an idea at the wrong time?

I just hopped into bed and was closing my eyes, thinking about the incongruous nature of the movie/video game crossover, when I realized that I've never seen anyone complain about a certain difference between the movies and this game.

So, before I go into this, I apologize for any named that are spelled improperly. I'm just spelling phoenetically here and I hope I get things right. If I don't I mean no offense and what not jibba jabba jabber-wokey ding dong.

So I've rewritten part of Episode I, as it would play out in game:

/shout You'll pay for this Darth Maul!!!

You swing at Darth Maul and miss!

Darth Maul swings at you but you block it!

You swing at Darth Maul but he counter attacks!

You swing at Darth Maul but he dodges the attack!

Darth Maul hits Qui-Gon Jinn for 10045 points of damage

[Group]: Qui-Gon Jinn has fallen incapacitated

[Group]: Qui-Gon Jinn has died

[Group]: Qui-Gon Jinn has been cloned at a cloning facility in Theed

/groupchat: Qui-Gon- I'll be back in 5 minutes. Gonna go get buffed back up.

/shout the end is near, Darth!!!

kinda changes the movie a bit lol. But this is one change I'm glad they made. I would have hate to have fought my first chubba, died, and then see the message: you have died. Your journey ends here. To buy another copy of the game visit http://lucasarts.com

I figure using JoeBobs arguement we should be able to use miniguns and Mark19 grenade launchers too. Remember Blackhawk Down?? The Rangers there used them. Where are my BDUs?

Oh wait, this is not Lord of the Rings, or any other movie.

Hey guys, give the guy a break. Referring to LOTR is normal considering how popular it is right now. I also think we should be able to forage to heal poisons/diseases.

Also, it would be nice to see us being able to use the pretty well defunct forage system for something actually useful. What I consider a problem is that what would stop a low level scout from /afking a /forage macro to load up their packs full of healing items for sale on the bazaar. Not likelyof course but how do we limit /forage to only Rangers?

What I would rather see is a schematic based system where some foraged items can be used in it but also creature harvested items. Useable at mid level ranger perhaps. Heh, stick it in the trapping tree if people want to dabble in it.

Given my choices I would rather be Master Ranger Aragorn than Master Ranger Nick Cage...lol.

New home of SWG Rangers!

I kinda disagree here. True this is not Lord of the Rings and we should not be modeled around Aragorn and do the things he is able to do. But the popularity of LOTR means that that type character immediately springs to mind when you look at the word "Ranger." Many people play, and will play their character, not necessarily to the LOTR Ranger skill set, but to the LOTR Ranger mentality.

Likewise many people will play to the Army Ranger mentality. When these people think of the Army Rangers they feel Pride, Excitement, and a sense of courage and history. When they see the Ranger tag in SWG they transfer this mentality to their character, imbuing them with the honor, courage, etc. of the Army Ranger.

It is hard to immediately identify your Ranger with the SWG type Ranger because very few people have seen Rangers in SW movies or literature. The only reason I knew there WERE SW Rangers is from posts here by hardcore fans. Ironically, our identity is actually one of the main issues we struggle with. Or rather, WE know how we identify ourselves... we are just no sure how the Developers identify us.

That mini-ramble being said, I do agree that if you want to truly get a skill set added you have to be able to justify it in the SWG sense. I don't think the Developers will give it us because Aragorn had it. We have to figure out reasons why SWG Rangers should have it. Very likely the reasons we should have are the exact SAME reasons Aragorn DOES have it in LOTR (if he didn't he wouldn't have survived very well in the wilderness as a Ranger - which I think is what the original poster meant), but just nix his name from the argument.

For the original poster - this is an idea that has been put forth many times. Recently I think we have been pushing more towards having "wilderness toughness" which would include a greater resistance to poison and disease. That way we do not step on any Doctor toes. They are our best customers, I'd hate to piss them off!

EDIT: No paragraph breaks! MY EYES!!!

I'd like to see /forage have some use. I'd prefer to /forage and dig up a Super Model...but I'd settle for some magic mushrooms. An who cares about Army Rangers....Recon Marines what! *end pitiful sarcasim*

I think the practical use of /forage should be to dig up various types ofedible flora, that provide some minor buffing effects orregenerative effects. Nothing to putMedics and Chefsout of business, but enough to keep one alive when you are far from a real Doctor and all out of Food. I think many people would like to see something like this.

Right now foods you forage ARE little mini buffs. The problem is that they are crap. The ones you get aren't even feasible for keeping you alive while you burstrun away for the most part. There are 1 or 2 exceptions.

Also I've fired a Mk-19 in RL and if i could have one in game I'd probably wet myself. Never got to mess with a minigun though. I'm a fan of the D&D ranger type which is loosely based off Tolkien's ranger. Dual wield specialization, wilderness survival skills, all that good stuff. If I though the devs would do it without killing the game even more I'd love to have a hatchet or hand axe in each hand. Look out Kreetles. They really do need to fix forage though. All they need to do is tweak the values for the stuff we find or add in items that higher level rangers will find. To my knowledge there are no new foraged items after the scout tree.
