I'll admit I've been away for awhile, but what is a harvesting droid. Where do you get one, how does it work.

Any information you can give me would be great.

These came in with the Droid Engineer revamp in the publish before last, and you can get one by contacting your friendly neighborhood DE. In any case, the modules that go in them give them a harvesting rating that can go up somewhere above 100 (mine has a 106 rating), which determine the amount these buggers harvest for you. If I'm not mistaken, the rating is a percentage of your harvesting skill (and I might be really wrong on this, so if I am, maybe someone could correct me), so with a 100 rating, the droid would harvest an equal amount as you would . Anything above and it'll outharvest you (my 106 rating droid harvests just a tad more than I do, probably around 6% more, but I haven't really run any numbers, to be honest).

Here's the catch: I've found that they're really, really slow. I can harvest much faster than these guys and often it's not worth the time to bring the little fellah out. When you do use the droid, you have to bear in mind that it eats batteries and can only harvest one target at a time. There is no autoharvest option. So, it works like this: I shoot mob, mob dies, I send the droid out to harvest it, wait for the droid to start moving because I want to be sure it recognized the command (I think the droid's hard of hearing), I start shooting mob #2 while the droid does its business. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The long and the short of it, I like the droid, but I only use it from time to time. If I'm hunting large creatures with fewer creatures per spawn, it's pretty nice to sit there from 60m out, prone, maskscented, and just shoot without needing to move around a whole lot. But, then, I'm a Rifleman, so it works out okay. For melee rangers, I'd say it's not worth having at all. Most of the time, however, I end up with more at the end of the day not using it, simply because I can harvest faster and be on my way to the next lair/mission/spawn/whatever, whereas with the droid I'll get ticked off when it doesn't listen to me or if it "misses" a corpse because I wasn't paying attention.

Oh yeah, and on Dathomir where terrain negotiation is key, the droid is really, really a pain, only because it slows you down so much.
