Thread: Hello. Questions if you have the time.

First, I would like to say that I'm tired of fighting it. I have been drawn to this proffesion from the beginning. Always kept hunt 4 not matter what lol. So, Im going to take the road and just become a ranger. That being said I have a few questions.
1.) What templete is best especially if you are going to harvest to sell? I am currently TKM and im sure that wont work. A lil of doc and was going to work fencer when I just decided to quit fighting it lol. I've heard good things about TKM, but to each their own. Fencers are good since they have such good dodge skills and they get a stun weapon which is hard for creatures to have resisits to. However, considering the damage of a Powerhammer, many choose swordsman (how cool would it be to swing a big hammer at a chubba, guys?). However I've heard incredible things about Pikeman and crowd control. It's all about how you play really. If you like speed and good defense, go Fencer. Massive power and blast damage? go swordsman. Effective control and knockdown attacks? Pikeman
2.) I know of swgcrafter.com already so I can keep up with resources shifts due to reading this forum. However, I cannot find a way to reliable price my wares. How in the heck do I know what meat/hide/bone I need for a doc/chef/BE. Keep in mind this will be my way of making cred. Also, what are the resource numbers and type are each looking for. EX: Doc's need x type of meat at xOQ and x PE or other conditions. A way to price the stuff would be great especially since I have no idea what they are worth.
I wish I had the time to go look for the clickies but I'm about to head to school (summer college course) and I don't have the time, Someone should be by shortly to help, in the meantime, do a search for "Resource Calculator". Or it may even be under the frequently asked questions thread. Anyway, I'll give you my personal take: if you find a dedicated guildy or a nice person, sell to them consistenly for cheap. Especially if they have something you need.If you sell to a guild doctor, they can buff you first and for free.
Personally, I sell to a guild member who I know sells for low prices to many people. He sells what many are selling for 100cpu or over for under 30. Many don't like his tactics, but on a good shift, you can make over a million credits in one or two nights. If you're going for power hunting for mass money, this may not be your tactic. There are a few things that will always cost more, for example. Avian meat gets its' own calculator since it's always in demand. Same thing with wooly hide. good leathery hide and good insect meat are also high-demand resources that should be sold for more, due to the demand.
I was using a thing where I added all the stat numbers then divided that number by number of stats i.e 4/5 then divided that by a hundred and sold stuff at that value but that seems outdated now. (Been outta game awhile hehe.)
Anyhow I know they are huge and involved questions that will required a lengthy response but I would be in your debt. Thanks in advance.
The best (imho) template to be a critter skinner is:
Master Swordsman
TKA 4304
Ranger 0040
great damage/ great defense/ wound,disease,poison healing/ powerboost.
Hi there, as the Nraas' Ranger links page (atleast the link to it in the sticky Ranger Links thread) seem to be down, I've taken the liberty of pasting in the Pricing Guide (somewhat compressed) I think I found on his pages (please forgive me if I've given the wrong guy credit for it....). Now I dont know how up to date this guide is, and you'll need to get a feel for the market out there, but the lower range prices usualy sell ok on the bazar/vendors at the calculated prices below. The high quality stuff tend to get higher prices than 50 cpu. But again get a feel for the market, and as Phenix wrote a steady customer that you sell to at somewhat lower prices will still make you alot of money and you don't have the hassle of traveling the whole galaxy, scanning trading forums/auction chat etc. to find the highest bidder - time is money when the really good resources are ut there...
So I guess that would answer part of your second question,
SWGCraft.com and SWGCretures.com are my sources for checking out what resources are good, and what cratures to get it from etc. And I guess you could find out a lot out what professions need what resources from researching a bit. However Nraas also had a list of all creature resource types and what they were used for,I haven't got the time to post all the segments of it right now butyou could message me with your email or something and I could send you the whole thing. I'll be leaving on a real life fishing trip (yes, I'm a real life ranger - read hunter/fisher
) in an hour or so (hence the bad time...) so I won't be doing anything with it before sunday. Maybe someone else has the list and could post it or send it to you?
For your first question: just have to add to the message that whatever works for you is usually fine (I'm Master Pistoleer and fine with that, maybe switching to Riflemannas I feel it's more "rangery"), read the post on harvesting droids (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=56976) and the Ranger FAQ (sticky thread) etc. for more harvesting tips.
Anyway here's the pricing guide (courtesy of Nraas):

Quality assesment formulas
You can get a weighted average for any resource you have, provided that you know how the stats are weighted in the schematics. The following formulas will tell how whether or not the stuff you have is outstanding quality or crap quality.
For Herbivore Meat, Avian Meat, Fish Meat, and Dathomirian Insect Meat:
(OQ + OQ + PE)/3
For all other kinds of meat:
(OQ + PE + FL)/3
For hide and bone:
[(OQ * 7) + (MA * 3) + (SR * 3) + UT]/14
Price Calculations
For a weighted average of 0-500:
5 cpu (This is how much I figure my time is worth. I won't sell for less than 5 cpu.)
For a weighted average of 500-800:
(Avg. - 200)/60
For a weighted average of 800-900:
(Avg. - 700)/10
For a weighted average of 900-1000:
[(3 * Avg.) - 2500]/10
If it's Fish meat, multiply the result by 4 (since it takes so long to get fish).
These formulas will give you costs per unit a sliding scale, based on quality. Here are some reference points for non-fish items:
Weighted Avg. of 500: 5.00cpu
Weighted Avg. of 600: 6.67cpu
Weighted Avg. of 700: 8.33cpu
Weighted Avg. of 800: 10.00cpu
Weighted Avg. of 850: 15.00cpu
Weighted Avg. of 900: 20.00cpu
Weighted Avg. of 950: 35.00cpu
Weighted Avg. of 1000: 50.00cpu
MATHEMATICAL OBSERVATION: One of the consequences of these formulas is that it will be much, MUCH harder to get high quality hides and bone than it will be to get high quality Herbivore Meat. Herbivore Meat only has two stats to worry about: PE and OQ. And it's pretty common to get a resource with those two stats above 800. It's much less common to get a resource with OQ, PE, and FL all above 800. And it's REALLY FREAKIN' RARE to get hides and bone with OQ, UT, SR, and MA all above 800.
As a consequence, I have noticed that my prices calculated by these formulas often tend to undershoot the prices offered by Master B-E's and Master Armorsmiths. So I am thinking about adding a 1.25x multiplier to any resource which requires PE, OQ, and FL, and a 1.5x multiplier to hides and bone.
NOTE: It is probably not a good idea to have multiple prices for the same resource. That is, if you have Herbivore Meat (which Bio-Engineers can also use), don't have a "Doctor" price, which is based solely on PE and OQ, and a separate "B-E" price based on PE, OQ, and FL. The "B-E" price will almost certainly be lower than the "Doctor" price, and your Doctor customers will be wondering why they have to pay so much when B-E's can get the same exact resource from you at a cheaper price. This will be shortly followed by them getting their B-E friends to come buy the stuff from you at a lower price. So best to just stick with a single price, based on who would get the most use out of it.
- TKM does work, very well in fact. You may have problems keeping any medical tho. But then any mastered prof is the same boat.
- I use this (for Eclipse). Most would typically increase the max price from what I set it. I have been adjusting the wieghts. I don't have it posted, but I was about to try:
- MEAT: 15%(DR), 15%(FL), 30%(PE), 40%(OQ)
- HIDE/BONE: 10%(DR), 15%(MA), 40%(OQ), 25%(SR), 10%(UT)

Pikeman I like TKM for a few reasons (to add to the Bothan's comments). 1) Cure disease and poison in field 2) you can attack without and weapon and this really lowers HAM costs using specials for unbuffed hunting, this is best close to TKMaster (edit to add) 3) Powerboost, this is awesome, takes half you mind pool and adds it to all 3 HAM's so with some drink and food I can be un-doc-buffed to somethinglike 1200/500/500 HA and 1650/1800/1800 M for about 15 minutes, very nice for hunting
I am currently Master Ranger/TKM and CH 0300 , don't use the pets much lately except when I need to pull ago off of myself on high end mobs. IE.like getting to bottom of Squill Cave, unbuffed and little armor, to finish off Hero quest by myself.
