Actually, I never though of that.... great if you are un-buffed, thanks Seiryuu !

TK works well with Creature Handler. Stand behind your pets (if not buffed/armored) and they can tank while you hit with specials from 10 meters out. You can auto-attack from 4 meters with practice and still let your pet tank. Ranger will give you a few skills to compliment your hunting. Together it is an effective combination.

Anyway on to the main reason for my post. I was a little confused about the applications of some of the ranger skills. Primarily, the ability to track players. What do current rangers use this skill for? Is it only usefull if your a ranger/bounty hunter? Also the ability to track NPCs, is that usefull at all?
Also, is the conceal ability only usefull if you use a ranged weapon, and use the ability to conceal to give you time to fire a few shorts first before your prey finds you to attack? Or is the conceal ability also usefull for those of us who use melee weapons?
In addition, what to you rangers spend your rangery time doing? Is it a case of hunting animals, harvesting and then selling the materials, or do you find other uses for your ranger skills? I cant see myself perpetually fishing.
Penultimate question, is the Ranger usefull in any kind of PVP? I cant say I'd miss dueling or being cinvolved in the GCW, but of course I may change my mind later. Has the ranger any place in pvp combat? I notice that traps cant effect non critters, to me this seems very strange, as it would give the ranger a good advantage in combat. Or should the ranger just stick to critters?
Finally, Im planning on being a TK master, Ranger master, and some Creature Handling. Is that a good template? Or should I pick a different third chioce to dabble in?
Thankyou for any advice or answers you can give. It would be much apprieciated.
1, Tracking players: I use it to help defend bases, basically I am the look out.
2, Conceal, I use conceal on players whom do not the ability to mask scent... Other than that, I might use it when I travel around places where there are lots of aggro NPC's. However, most of the time I skip this option because I'm buffed up.
3, Spending time: Mostly hunting for meats, hides.. Enjoying the scenery and scout for player bases.
4, PvP:Nope.... to be successful in PvP you have to focus on combat templates only. You assisin PvP by /areatracking for enemies... (Traps, do not work against players).
5, Teplate: If you go CH, MRanger... I would suggest MRifle. Send your critters to tank meanwhile you perform ranged attacks... (That's what I would have done if I were in your shoes) ![]()
I will warn you right now that Creature Handler by itself is not very effective for hunting. You will want at least some weapon skills to get by. (Marksman Pistols IV will work, but keep some.)

Hello thar everyone. Im on my way to becoming a ranger and I would just like a few clarifications on skills, and rangers in general.
Ive been reading the ranger boards for a few days and see that there seem to be alot of complaints with current skills, but I also get the impression that things are planned to be fixed? Of course it may be a long way off, but things will be changed, right?

Some of us, including myself, use area track to track npc's such as the hermit quest and the like. You usally get paid for finding a npc someone needs. As for player tracking, if someone griefed me in pvp or something I may hunt then down and kill em' in the wild. hehe. Also, BH's have asked me to track jedi also.
Also, is the conceal ability only usefull if you use a ranged weapon, and use the ability to conceal to give you time to fire a few shorts first before your prey finds you to attack? Or is the conceal ability also usefull for those of us who use melee weapons?
Ranged only, I think.

It is mostly hunting and selling for me, plus, with area track, hunting specific creatures is easy. I can grab a few static lairs while I'm doing missions for the same type. However, I personally like to explore and just be in the wilderness soemtimes too.

Ranger has no specific skills directed towards pvp, as far as I can tell. We get small melee/ranged defense mods at master, it helps a bit.

Sounds like a great template to me.

no prob.
