On Thursday, we will be updating the game again.Among the changes, everyone will notice:
- NPCs will equip/change weapons during combat.
- NPCs will use special abilities.
With NPC’s and Creatures being able to equip their weapons and use their abilities as they are meant to, they are going to be much tougher in combat.Tough enough so that combat planning is going to be very important.
If you get a chance this week, please check out combat with NPC’s and Creatures and post your feedback.
Thanks!
So Rangers should expect their missions to be even tougher. At this point I don't expect Ranger to be a viable profession to even have unless you're a master rifleman, or a master TK/Swordsman/Pikeman/Fencer, I suppose a Master Creature Handler could probably handle taking on theirnormalmissions too.
The problem is, all I ever wanted to be was a Carbineer and a Ranger. I like carbines because they're supposed to be faster than rifles, and they're longer range than pistols. I like Rangers for the idea ofCamoflauge, and I'm one of the few fans of the HTFB. But basically now, I have all my ranger and scout skills that don't count for anything against two thirds of the targets in the game (players and NPC's), and don't help at all against targets that I'm supposed to be most effective against (creatures).
I had a novice scout brag to me yesterday that he was getting more meat than I was off something because of his 107 droid. I'm sorry, but I've been a master Ranger a LONG time, I maxed out scouting so long ago I don't remember. I've actually been a master Ranger 3 different times. I want to harvest more than anyone possibly could even imagine, and I want to harvest more than a damn droid.
Basically I just want to know what a Ranger is supposed to be doing?

This should not affect creatures - their specials have always (or mostly ?)been working (as far as I know).
Things like Janta, Mokk, Nightsisters etc. will no longer be as easy to solo - shamen will be healing the other Janta/Mokk, Nightsisters will use their force powers again ....
So for Rangers who go creature hunting, we should be ok
It's about time they fixed this bug that was introduced in Patch 7 ........
As for droids ? Pah !!
That's not the proper way to go hunting

Well I shall be doing what I have always done, killing stuff and selling the resources.
If you are having trouble taking down tougher creatures I would highly recomend getting a pet, after Master Ranger and Master 'ranged profession of your choice' you will have enough skill points to become a CH and havelevel 19 pets. A BE can make you a level 19 one with Light Armour, 60% Kinetic and 9k + health. I have two Gurrecks with these stats, was hunting voritors on dant this morning for their meat, my pet had 6 beating on him whilst I fan shotted them with my pistol from a safe distance. I harvested 250 units of meat from each one woohoo. My pet was in a bad state at the end of the fight, so I stored him, then called him again which cured the poison then healed him with pet stims.
EDIT: The voritors were all difficulty 40-45, almost certain it was 44. They were wild spawns, no way I can get missions for stuff this tough.

Not entirely true. You can't get the missions normally, but you can with a solo group.
Look for "voritor hunter lairs" with 25k payouts. Yesterday I ran these missions for about 3 hours and managed to get 550k from the missions themselves and 38k meat from the voritors, which sold nicely for 1.7 mill. So my point is, sometimes it's worth grouping. Sure, you only harvest 60%, but you can hunt them a hell of alot more than twice as fast when you have missions for them. Plus, you get paid for the missions as well.

I wonder if this will be the end of the vaunted janta missions.
I hope so. I enjoy selling creature resources more and make more money faster.

Hang on, NPC's using specials and appropriate weapons?
I already suck in PvP, it's going to be interesting just getting to / from some starports.
Yesterday I ended up burstrunning the last 500m of 750m from my house into Espa. I had one spawn of Jabba Swoopers on one heel and a spawn of Desert Demon on the other. Somewhere along the way I picked up a cluster of overkreetles. HUGELY amusing for the players waiting at the shuttle as I flew past like the circus arriving in town. Not quite so much fun for me, watching my HAM turn into white fingers of death.
(Good ranger that I am I used the terrain to my advantage. The ones I didn't lose into the artwork as I came in behind the med centre and out into the Commercs Guild square I managed to draw over to the patrolling Stormies. I'd have stuck around to see the shoot out but just kept on running till I hit the starport.)

What he said. Adding in, "We would all like to know what Rangers are supposed to be doing".

Guess I just picked the wrong weapon to be interested in, I can't go after nightsisters or rancors, I can't go after Mokk's or Janta's, as a Ranger since October, I've never seen a krayt dragon, when I go out to track kimogila's I'm the one that doesn't find any, it's always one of my teammates that do.
I am CH 0300 and my cat helps a little, but Pet stims are more expensive than taking lower level missions. I'm just tired of waiting for my 240 skill points to count for something.

Seanblader, I hear what you are saying mate, but just one quick question, does your pet have Lightarmour and 60% kinetic? without these I agree the cost of petstims will become prohibitive.
I try to have my pet fight all the creatures in one wave at the same time then fanshot them down, after which I will heal the pet 0-2 times, for the life of me I can't remember how many uses I get from a stim c, think it is around 20 so that equates to about 4 lairs a pet stim worse case.
