I've got 2 questions about hunting.
I am a TK Master, Ranger 0-0-4-0. I make a pretty decent living in-game being an Organics provider to chefs, doctors, tailors, architects, and armorsmiths.
When you are out gathering resources, which do you find is best:
Grouping with others and pulling Missions from the terminals
or
Going out into the wild without missions and just using Area Track to find creatures and lairs?
it seems to me that as long as it's a planet with lots of creatures (such as yavin or endor) i can get a lot more organics by not getting missions, and just venturing out into the wild. this also makes me feel more like a ranger, living off the land, and stalking my prey. in three 3-hour buffs i was able to complete a 100k unit meat order by doing this. so i am wondering if most Rangers think this is the best method, or if i should pull missions instead.
i know that i am not stealing other people's missions (at least i think so). a friend told me that the way to tell if a lair is someone mission or not is determined by the Lair's title. if a lair is called "a nest" then it isn't someone's mission, and if it is called "a gurk lair" then it is someone's mission. so another question is, is what my friend told me true? is that a correct way to tell if it is someone's mission?

I tend to do both, I get two missions both in the same direction and then half way to the mission I jump off my bike and track to see what's there, also once I have finished the missionI track to see what's there also. I felt a bit of a fraud the first time that I realised that I got more resources taking missions than just using track alone, but doing both makes me feel like a Ranger still

I imagine it is a matter of personal taste. Generaly when I start a hunting trip, I get a couple missions, and pick two completely opposite directions. Then I hunt anything along the way to either one of the missions. I prefer to hunt alone because it is my characters archetype. The lone wilderness trapper. Wildman of the woods kind of thing. I am sure that I may have a higher productivity if I went group hunting, but I just enjoy the time aone. I generally will even put up the AFK tag and ignore all tells. But hey, that's me.

well, here is my typical hunting trip (which is what i did when i was hunting 100k units of endor herbivore last weekend).
pull up the planetary map.
pick out a spot on the planet that is far away from the outpost i'm at (preferably an area of the map i've never been to before)
set a waypoint to that area on the map.
start out on foot from the outpost towards that waypoint.
i do area tracks usually every 500m-600m along the way.
if i see a creature that drops the resources i am looking for, i'll go after them and take them down. (by the way, i am buffed when i do this)
i just keep hunting all the way to the waypoint.
if i have time left on my buffs, i'll pick a new waypoint, and repeat this cycle.
one of the best things about this plan, is that i get to see parts of the planet that i would have never seen before. the devs spent so much time on the details of each planet. there are all kinds of neat little things to see on the planets. little huts, strange looking mushrooms, fires, and so much more. with as much in this game that is broken, i am still amazed by this game. there is just so much out there to see and do, that it is impossible for anyone to see it all.

That's simaller to what I do, but I usually pull out my Spat and ride with rifle at the ready. It makes my area track macro a couple lines extra but I like the effect.

Great Ranger Hunts eh?
i need to make some Ranger friends on Lowca, and go on a great ranger hunt.
Actually, Great Ranger Hunts are gatherings of all the Rangers from all the servers. We meet on Wanderhome, where most people are noobs, and just go hunting. This is where the term 'harvesting amoeba' was coined and the amoeba is quite a sight to behold. Imagine what 20+ noob Rangers can do to a kreetle corpse..../shudder

sounds like fun. i'll have to make a character on Wanderhome sometime.
i'm new to the Ranger boards, but i've been a ranger 0-0-4-0 for about 2 months now.
at this point in time, i don't have the free skill points to master ranger, because of being a mayor, i need free points for hitting master politician. but eventually i would like to go through and get some of those sweet camps rangers can make, and also play around with the camoflage too.

I usually grab a couple missions an once I get out to them, I start looking around for similar animals. If I can see that the server isn't spawning any wild spawns, I will go back for more missions. If it does seem to be spawning wild stuff, I will wander aimlessly and kill stuff.
I almost always hunt grouped with my no-Scout-having Doctor friend. It is nice to have some companionship, AND he keeps me alive (except on Great Ranger Hunts).
