Hey guys,
Myself and a few friends formed a guild and city about 3 weeks ago or so. Well, last night something funny happened. I just finished hunting on Corellia with a good friend (not in our guild) and my buff just wore off, so i figured i'd do a little fishing before logging off. Well, in guild chat, someone asked what everyone was up to. I said i was fishing. But, 4 other guild mates (who were nowhere near each other) all said they were fishing too.
Well, we started comparing lenghths of fish we caught, and we came up with a great idea. We want to hold a player event, open to anyone on Lowca. A Fishing Competition!!!
I plan on having our master artisan craft a bunch of the best fishing rods he can, and I will place a small house in town (near the river) that is like a Bait and Tackle shop, with a vendor selling bait and rods.
So, i was thinking of posting information about a fishing competition, and i wanted to see if anyone else out there has either held one of these, or participated in one. and if so, anyone have any pointers or tips?
here are the rules i was thinking:
first off, i would start a chat channel for the competition so that all of us fellow anglers can talk amongst ourselves.
we would all meet at our city on lok (or somewhere else, because i want to have several of these, at different planets)
we then tell everyone to go out and catch a certain type of fish (maybe a ray, or a striped fish).
they get a specified amout of time to catch all the fish they can.
when the time is up, they all return to the starting location
we find out who has the largest Lokian Ray (for this example)
and that person wins some sort of prize (so, i'd need prize suggestions)
then, the person with the smallest fish gets some kind of dummy prize or something (like broken electrobinoculars)
and maybe another prize for the person that caught the most Lokian Rays
then the next one we hold we would do on Dath, or Dant, or whatever, and randomly pick a different fish species
so, any thoughts, suggestions?
one thing i like about this is that ANYONE can participate, you don't need to be a scout or ranger, you don't need any combat skills at all. Noobs and Master Rangers all have a chance of winning this.

Make sure he uses lubricating oil for the chemical component; it doesn't have the required stat, so it bumps the average up.

what materials are best for making fishing poles?
my artisan friend is a Mon Calamarian, so he usually makes it a point to NOT make fishing poles (maybe he's scared that he is crafting his own demise)

maybe you did see me, i was out fishing on corellia last night after harvesting some animal bones. (by the way, corellian animal bone is pretty good right now on lowca, at least it was last night). i found a good spot near Tyrena (sp?) that had 5 stars for fish population, and zero vegitation. ended up with 15 fish during that trip.
