I thought it would be cool if you guys got some lures/pheremones/bait in your trapping line so you could try to spawn a selected creature on demand. Some possible uses: Harvesting certain resources. Many meats or hides do not spawn from lairs you can get missions on. No more running wildly across a planet hoping for a langlatch spawn for uber lokian wooly. Spawn rare/big creatures, essentially taking on the role of a big-game hunt leader, krayts would be an obvious choice, but I know the first thing I'd like is a gorax, I've never even seen one in-game.
I'm not a ranger, flame me if you like.

We have asked for this.
And areatrack allows us to find spawn that we can't get missions for.

OK, not flaming, cos we don't do that here. No, really.
But.

We Hunt.
Part of the enjoyment in the game for us is overcoming the difficulty in finding a particular creature or in finding the wild spawns of x resource. Oddly enough, blasting its corpse into the next galaxy or punching it till its insides are outsides are, generally, just 'part of the job'. They are a step on the way to getting to the bit we earn our XP for. Harvesting.
Why do you want, for example, to see a gorax? Because it IS rare, because it's something of an achievement to be able to say "Hey, I was out at XXX XXXXXX today and got stomped on by the biggest, scariest looking thing I have EVER seen" and, despite nursing your wounds in the sick bay and siwhing you'd remembered to clone and insure this time, you've actually achieved a goal in game.

Anyway, pulling creatures out of a hat is something magicians do. THe rest of us? We go work at finding them.

Have a shot of this brandy, I cooked it myself. It's mostly industrial chemicals, but hey, does the job...

Almagill,
This comes up because one of the bigger devs told us we were getting this. Yes we are hunters and its great to out and track. But the reality is that on the more dense planets the random spawns arent happening due to overpopulation. And for some of us, myself including, this would be mostly a way of getting Tat, Corelian and Talusian Avian

Yes, we were already promised this ability way back in August '03 by Greenmarine, I believe. Someone recently found and reposted the original here, find it and be amazed.
/Areatrack was just supposed hold us over until they could work out the flaws in /Track; an ability that would allow us to spawn a creature native to the region we are in with a series of waypoints (similar to how racetracks work, I assume) that would lead us to our quarry. I am guessing that as you climb the Ranger tree, you would be able to /track bigger and badder creatures, untill you could find Krayts and such at Master Ranger.
But, alas, /Track and several other promised items, including placeable traps that would effect Humanoids, were never to be seen... which is why I trashed my old SWG account and may soon trash another, never to make the mistake of buying SOE again. I dispise broken promises, especially when this community, as a whole has been so patient and polite... almost to a fault.
Yes, I am bitter. I appologize.
