Thread: The Great Kreetle Nerf of 2005

From the CU testing:

Has anyone else noticed.....
Kreetles don't aggro. They show up as a yellow dot and won't come after YOU until YOU go after THEM.

TBH, I don't know how I feel about this. I wish I could have done some extremely hard quest, like slaying 1 million kreetles or something and then have then bow down in front of me and promise to grant me free passage accross the dune of tatooine. Instead, this "hand of God" victory over my arch nemisis is somewhat discontenting and anti-climactic.

Any thoughts?

Oh... I did get pwned by an overkreetle pretty darn quick

killing kreetles used to be dirty but necessary work. The vermin would overrun the place, attacking anyone and everyone.

Now - they are passive and the need to kill them is not there. Something lost from the game.

No more would a master scout be detected by a kreetle after passing a dozen Squills undetected.

No more would a Master Combat Professional be attacked by a mad kreetle in the mistaken idea that 2 legs = food

aah - the good old days ......

I foresee a time when we will sit by our campfires, old and grey, telling Ranger younglings the way of olden times. When the allmighty Kreetle was the bane of any and all of us, and they will sit silent before us, listening to the lore and wisdom from a time when Tatooine was more dangerous than Dathomir...

That's the way it will be, I'm sure!

And I forsee a time when we sit at our Master Scout campfires telling young Scouts of the times when there was a Ranger Profession before the DEVs took it out of the game because it was the easiest fix for all the problems with the Ranger profession

I'm afraid I won't be there to tell the story, if that happens...

Now what am I going to do with my kreetle named Camo'breaker. It just won't be the same. I might have to send him back into the wild.

As far as ranger getting removed or even combined or anything less than a revamp I'll be canceling my account the day that gets pushed live. I will not only throw away the discs but i will light them ablaze first to make sure no one else has the slightest chance of playing what killed me.

Yeah, I noticed that too

It's not a major thing about the kreetles, but I kind of think it's actually a little disappointing. I went outside of Bestine and saw a ton of creatures to start killing.

I started shooting away at womp rats, and heard some sounds of kreetles afoot! I started to panic when I saw about 6. Being a complete noob marksman, I thought they'd all aggro me at once. They just stood there though... I'm torn... I always hated my MS/camo being broken by them, but in a funny way, I'd miss it if they didn't aggro me in their annoying way.

Honestly, it might be too soon to tell. They may not have tweaked the UI yet.. in fact, only tatooine is set up right now for low level mobs. Also, many creatures didn't aggro while you shot at them. Still, it's odd that they didn't show up as red on the radar.. but again, I think the AI isn't fully implemented.

STOP STOP STOP!!!

OK, first of all I am seriously P'O'd about some of the changes in the CU. For some changes I'm quite happy, but nothing to get the party biscuits out over.

Right, now, there is one thing we've got to get our heads round.

During TESTING sometimes the dev's tinker with creature and NPC behaviours so as to get particular results out of the TESTERS.

TC players? Remember the great Nekkid Bothan Invasion when there were suddenly no creature spawns, just nekkid bothan? Folk couldn't hunt, we had to go look at some entertainery thing that'd changed...

GCW testers, remember the insane Commoners revolt? Made people have to grab stuff off the frogs and get out of town...

Anyone notice the purple con thugs in town, near the blue frogs, when all the idiot non-buffed pvping lag creating speeder bike parking morons were trying to bust the server?

Now, we're there to test new combat level skills, turn down the aggression on some creatures and people WILL fight them unbuffed. If kreetles could kill(tm) all that we'd have is hundreds, thousands of players staying IN town, too scared to go near the scary bugs.

You can bet things will get aggro again 'soon'.

BTW< just as an observation, I went to Yavin and NONE of the normally aggressive creatures responded to my presence at all. Unmasked, masked, dancing in my boxers, it made no difference. Until I shot at a kliknik and it incapped me in one spit. No DB tho, it just went back to staring at the sky...

I'd put money on the fact that aggro has been turned down, in some areas, to encourage testing. (Check the MotD onthe load screen about 'some MOBs in Bestine won't attack back.... y'think they were trying to tell us not to go kill them cos it'd not be fair? or giving a 'hint' that there were some easy pickings...)

From TH's Focus Thread for today:

# Please focus your activities on Tatooine.
# Creatures and NPCs on other planets have not been set up for testing. Things like creature level and aggro ranges will not provide you with the proper experience.
# It would be very helpful to focus your testing on the novice professions.

See? Testing is weird. It's not like Live, the Dev's do weird stuff behind the scenes because they want to 'encourge' articualr types of activity from the testers.

Yah, I have reservations about being treated like a lab rat too, but hey, I want my cheesy treat..

Gah! I was a few stanzas away from completing my epic poem, and in one fell swoop my masterwork is rendered irrelevant.

This would make me angry, if I wasn't already.

The great hunter no longer has teeth and the will to hunt. I bow my head in respect to the passing of the old nemesis and sigh in pitty to the new, spirit-broken little bettles that once gave me such entertaining and challenging conflicts. I salute you, krettles of old....
