Maybe it's a cunning psychological trick to lure the less committed away from Rangerdom "oooh lookit the points it frees up" and to deter people from speccin' INTO the prof away from the dev's beloved combat based profs?
That and any sensible ranger isn't going to drop a super duper valuable box... likewhat I did. But I'm not sensible, I'm mercenary.
Hehe, I don't care if I get 1xp from a kill now, I don't need more weapons XP, am 'finished'. I slaughtered every critter in my valley today, harvested there bones and got mega scout xp. Nearly maxed out and on the road to regaining my lost skills.

Great, then you mean I have to refill two boxes of Ranger because of a bug? >.< Not happy.
And I only dropped it to try out two combat professions side by side for comparison's sake. I couldn't do it with my alt because all his skills are non-CU, so no respec.

i have 900k rifle xp and 300k combat banked... and im only ranger 4342.... i think im going to drop some rifle boxes for quick ranger lvl and train them back... there a danger in doing this?

Ok what I had to do when this happened because it filled in all the boxes I needed to KEEP Master Ranger Master Rifle... SO I was at like -7 Skill points. Rather then Respec which wasn;t the real problem.. I told it Later then just dropped my Novice Medic and 1 FS box normally. POOF I could walk again and still had all my boxes...

Only if you engage in combat that would make you lose banked XP. (Example: I had a tankload of scouting XP banked, halfway to capped, and when I dropped down to Scout 0040 or whatever and harvested something, I lost all but 50k of it because that was the cap for my new skill level.)
If you train right back, though, you should be fine. (I take it you don't have enough respec points to just respec right into Ranger?)
