actually if your just hunting for profit its not bad now... If your hunting for profit and XP it totally sucks.. To get XP you MUST be on missions. (this is actually a good thing I think). THe problem is that if you take a mission that is just a single CL higher then you 99% of the time you are going to get your head handed to you.

Ok my furry friend, here is a hunting tip from a ranger rifleman. I have been hunting on Rori, nice creatures there dont group aggro. My current CL is 71 and i have been hunting CL 73 creatures spawned on a mission.

My technigue is to get to 64m then open up wiht a kneecap shot, then a head shot, and then a PHENACINE DART. This actually slows the critter down to a crawl and sometimes stops em all together. I finish it off at leisure, at least till the dart wears off. If it gets too close i use firearm strike and knock its butt down.

5 hours of hunting.... 250 - 300k Scouting XP.... 3 incaps....and a grand total of 1 wound.

That was the trap that worked the one time too. Looks to be a winner. I may have to see if I can make some crates of the things

The adhesive meshes I used didn't seem to take tho. Not sure if there's a problem with them, a limit or I just got unlucky (only tried it 4 times).

Anyone have a feel for how armor's working?

I posted the following over in the rifleman forum but it may be useful here too (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=rifleman&message.id=93930).

If anyone knows how to do this better, please let me know. Actually, if any of you guild writers want to start a thread now, I'll buy you a brandy. heck, a crate of it.

Key possible areas of improvement:

Group hunting the only way to fly? (I know that's what's being pushed but I hate it being a requirement)

Better armor? My battle armor didn't seem to save me and I worried it slowed me down.

Better shot combos? This I really like in the CU.

Patience til snipping is fixed?

Ok, I did some testing on Lok & Tatooine. I'm a master rifleman/master ranger template and was hunting without armorand this is what I found.

/Cover was VERY erratic. Quite often I'd get it the first time but if I was discovered and tried again, it rarely worked and if it didn't work on the first try it seldom worked on repeated tries. I'm wondering if there's a hidden timer or something involved. It's also possible that I was too close to a different critter then I was hunting or something.

Unfortunately, even if you /cover successfully and do conceal shot, it seems to work but in fact it doesn't. You get the exact same number of shots if you start the attack prone from the same distance (they discover you on the third shot. Conceal shot does some nice damage tho).

Snipper shot works some times and does _really_ nice damage (~50% more damage then other shots) but it uncovers you immediately. I have no real idea why it works sometimes and not others (I'm getting REALLY annoyed with the lack of feedback on failures, there's no real excuse for it in my book)

Knee-cap does in fact slow the creature down while they are +SNARED+ and you can get quite a few shots off while it's in effect. However, the slowdown is very small. For me runningaway at full speed (not in bustrun mode), the critter will catch up with me slowly and incap me but when it's knee-capped, it stays about even. I don't think this is much help for non-master rangers tho, unless you have a long flat plain to run on. Also, aggresive creatures pretty much left me alone while I was walking around looking for things but if you run past them while fighting something else, they join right in (not really helpful).

Unfortunately, the only way I was able to hunt creatures my own level was to move into about 60m, go prone and get off 3 shots then knee-cap and run like the wind until I got away (firing all the time). If the creature gets too close, I unequipped my rifle and could get away with out the weapon slow down. Then I'd run back, pick up the creature I started on and repeat the process, this time I could usually kill it.

All told, it took me about 3 hours to figure this out and clear a lair of 15 lvl 82 creatures for about 5200 exp and about 600 units of bone each (chalk it up to a huge stubborn streak). I later tried a 78th level bull bantha lair on Tatooine in about 30-45 minutes but there I was able get the lair knocked out without killing all the bantha. I've heard that you shouldn't be able to solo at 80th level and, while technicallyIcan do it, I wouldn't call it a fun (or productive)time yet.

Another tactic I used was to hide behind a platoon of imperial clones and draw some 80th level drewbacks into them. That was kinda fun to watch but not a really common set up.

Another war story was when I was getting set up for the Bantha ambush on Tatooine, a mountain squill suddenly walked up from behind and hit me for 21K+ damage then (fortunately) wandered away while I lay stunned and wondering what heck happened! Turns out it was a 288th level mountain squill lair about 30m behind me so watch out there too.

Hope concealed hunting gets fixed soon (at least I hope it's not running as designed now) and knee-capping should slow things down more then that. I'm not really fond of the "peal one off, run for 300m then come back and do it again" style of hunting but it's the best I've found so far.

Oh, one other thing. I tried tossing some traps into the mix a little but I only noticed one trapped worked (so I guess it's possible). It worked very well in fact but I didn't get any trapping exp for some reason. I'll have to try that more but it doesn't help non-rangers much.

Updates:

As posted in another thread here, trapping xp apparently is rewarded when the creature dies. I didn't notice it but I can well believe it.

A-Mesh has no effect right now.

The best +snare+ you can use from Ranger is P-Dart. If you go Carbineer for awhile you can also add Charge shot to knock down a creature and apply some sort of +snare+ while you lay down more damage dealing specials.

Right now, with Advanced Sniper / Cover / and Concealshot being borked I'm doing the following:

  1. Go prone and open with "charge shot" from Carbineer.

  2. Hit Knee-Cap shot

  3. Then Headshot and Startle shot til it falls.

If I'm fighting multiples I'll alternate Charge Shot and P-Dart on secondary targets while doing major damage to my first concern.

From 60m I can kill any White Con creature just before it reaches me.
