Hmm, choices like this are always personal.

But here goes my thoughts (which change with the resources )

Ranger by itself does not add to combat skills. You could drop the ranger and then you could do both CH and Pistoleer.

If you wish to stick with Ranger though then the advantage to CH is you already learned the skill to become a CH through the carreer path of the ranger. This would leave you with more points than taking Pistoleer.

I have never looked at the CH skill tree however so if you are still working your way to ranger then you may be competing for the same experience for both skill trees which may make the Pistoleer a good choice as the experience would be a different pool than rangers.

Like I said I cannot chose for you and realy have a limited knowledge at this point to the overall advantages to the classes itself.

I have been in a similar dilemma. First I wanted BH (and still might want to go that direction)…but I like, always liked, the Ranger concept. I also like packing the pistolola
So…

I look at this in degrees (like college):

- I will major in Ranger/Pistol
- with a minor in: medic, and CH.

I have not crunched any numbers but I think I should be able to do this.

Good Hunting

I'm a Ranger/Pistoleer and it works very well for me combination wise. That said, my partner in crime is a CH and I can say from experience in the field with her that Ranger/CH is also a very effective combination. Specifically in the following areas:

1) Terrain Movement - since going prone actually helps you from spooking critters you are trying to tame as a CH, the faster prone movement speed is actually a big plus in this area.

2) Cammo - Being able to keep your scent masked longer/more effectively is a huge bonus for CH's who need to sneak in to tame that baby

3) Increased Foraging - huge plus here since food items restore pet health/action pools and fix wounds(tricks do the mind) so the ability to forage better is a nice plus.

4) Rescue - still limited in use but I can see potential uses for this regarding pulling a critter off your pet, at least in the early goings.

As for Pistoleer/Ranger, I enjoy it myself, it gives me some good strong advantages in the PvE area and the two compliment each other fairly nicely. As for a melee/ranger combination, that actually is also a very good mix with the one exception being the creature to hit bonuses only work for guns.

I'm currently three-waying it, but that is subject to change based on changes to Ranger. I was planning on going Ranger/CH all the way, but have been turned off by the "same-old scout routine" that currently is the Ranger.

I've put two levels into wayfaring, novice pistoleer, and first tier +1 second tier CH.

Eventual template is to get at least the third rank in Stances/Grips for the stopping shot, full CH, and the rest is negotiable.

If you arent interested in Master Pistol or Ranger, it's possible to build a fairly well-balanced character with these three areas.

Im 3 waying it too. Im primarily BE, CH novice, Ranger. Should be able to see better stats of what i am sampling, tho im having huge issues with the points, cant master BE or Ranger if I go this route.

I am having a hard time decieding which paths to take: Master Ranger/ Master CH, with enough points left to master the 1st 4 tiers marksman Rifle, or Master Ranger/ Master Pistoleer.

Thx

My initial plan was to go Master Ranger/Master Pistoleer but ever since I picked up Novice CH I am really getting into the pets. As such, my tentative plan is to get Master Ranger and use a mix of pistoleer and CH skills.

Under pistoleer, I am going for Tactics 4 and Special Abilities 4. Under CH, I am going for Management 3, Empathy 1 and Taming 4. This setup should allow me to use 2 high level pets while maintiaining good pistol damage with bodyshot 3 and pistolwhip. Plus, I have focused on the pistol melee defensive modifiers to help with PvE.

I doubt that this setup is any good for PvP, but that is not realy a concern for me right now.

With the changes that are about to occur for CH's it makes it real difficult to dabble in that tree now.

I was, and still am planning on going:
Master Ranger
Master CH
Novice Pistoleer (just for Health Shot2)

I don't get the pistol whip skill, but some pets do have posture change attacks, which can help. I'll have enough Combat experience to pick up the pistol whip skill soon, and will probably learn it as I'll have that before I master the other 2 trees, and see how well it works, if it helps a lot, I'll have to rethink at that point.

I am along the same lines here.

I am aiming for Ranger/Partial CH/ Novice Carbineer/Novice Medic

I plan to max the ranger skills but the CH skills I am not sure I will. I just picked up novice CH last night and am giving it try to see if I like it. So far it is fun except for the limited pet space you get at first.

For now just being Novice carbineer is really helping alot with my kills and I dont think I will take cabineer much further though. I also have skills inPharmacology. Helps a lot when away from town and need a quick heal. Plus I am sure my pets will appreciate it.

My current set up is Master Ranger / Master CH / Novice Pistoleer.

I already have the pistoleer done, 1 box from Master Ranger, 4 Boxes from Master CH. So far it is working out well, I am worried though that after the nerf to CH I am worried Novice Pistoleer wont give me enough offence. I like it so far though.
