Okay, I'm probably going to get flamed to death after this post, it seems that you Rangers are pretty dedicated to your profession... but I didn't choose it, so don't yell at me. Anyway, I got Ranger in a holo... and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to master it quickly, and efficiently. I was thinking long trips to Dathomir, in large groups, and asking people to enter the camps that I make... crafting bigger, and bigger camps as I go, harvesting every big creature I can, and generally making a nuisance of myself. Sound like a good strategy?

The only line that's a real issue is Frontiering. You can max out your Tracking/Wayfaring lines quite easily by hunting on Dath or Endor, and skinning everything you kill. Group up for easier kills and an XP boost (which reduces your overall harvest, but since you're grinding I'd wager you don't mind that).

For trapping, just make crates of glow wire traps and toss them nonstop at Rancors, should be quite fast.

Back to the Frontiering line - you can (if you save the hide you got earlier) just grind traps and camps for the XP. I believe the xp is 2xComplexity, but I could be wrong. It's going to be a lot of grinding.

Keep in mind that this class more than almost any other was never intended to be easy to obtain or to grind. Rangers aren't just supposed to be able to /examine a creature to know about it - they should learn about their environment because they're in it all the time.

Good luck!

I'll do each type of xpseperately:

Trapping: Make some glow juice or wire mesh traps (by some I mean several crates). Get buffed and armored. Go to Dath. Take a Giant Baz Nitch mission. Throw until you get enough trapping xp for the next level. Get trained. Get another baz mission (you can also do rancors but getting rancor missions is a touch harder).

Scouting: Go to Dath. Make sure you keep mask scent up. Kill stuffand harvest (faster stuff dies, the more you can harvest--groups are a good thing for this). I recommend going all the way up one tree (tracking for the hides/bones for the camp crafting part) first as the cap should be enough to get multiple skills in the other tree. Unless of course you have someone to train you along on the trip.

Survival: Craft camps in a camp. Use resources gained getting scouting xp plus a bit of metal.

You can do it in a day if you want.

Observation: Our buddy here is a holo-grinder who has posted before. What he doesn't know is we will help any Ranger as long as they stay civil in our forums. We prefer real Rangers, but we will help speed you on your way. That being said, what everyone else said is basically it. Throw traps at Rancors. Harvest Rancors. Craft camps while sitting in a camp (double whammy) till your fingers bleed. Good luck .

Also try to get people through your camp, if you can convince a doc to sit and do buff there - even better!

Oh, and one question I would honestly like an answer to. What's the attraction in hologrinding - if you're not happy mastering any other professions, what will make Jedi any different really? Once you've mastered it won't you be bored and either A: remaster a profession you've already done once, or B: leave the game as you feel you 'done everything'?

That wasn't meant to be antagonistic in any way, I really do want an answer. Hologrinding doesn't look likea lot of fun to me.

(for the antagonistic, flamer version of that post check the 'we want to harvest' thread on the jedi forums )

Yeah, always wondered about the grinders. I got Chef... yeah right, that was gonna happen. In a month of blue moons maybe.

Maybe in the quest part, but only if I can keep my main toon and stay Ranger too. If not, poop on it, someone has to be around to be in peril to be saved...lol... like stormies worry me??

I think Alot of it is People who Do it Just want to be "Uber".....There's alot of em out there, you know the type(S)....And they Think Jedi is the Ultimate Symbol of Uber out there right now, so thats what they do.

Honestly, Part of me is tempted to hologrind (Except i play 4 differant chars already and i don't want to "Repete" grinds again) But i know as soon as i Close in on the FSCS mastering my 32'nd profession they will bring the servers down for an emergency patchto turn Unlocking into some Huge Random series of quests.....So untill then i'll try to get Proffessions i like Buffed up to where i don't feel like i'm missing out by playing them

Well, 2 reasons I decided to holo grind... 1) Hunt with a Jedi Guardian once, and you'll understand... and 2) It's a challenge. Sure, once I grind out an FSCS, and get my "Uber" Jedi (Which by the way are succeptible to TKM's and BH's...) I probably will quite, but I'll have taken a long, and challeging road to coming as close to "Beating the game" as one possibly can. Plus, I just want a dang lightsaber! Soooo coool! hehehehe

I did almost all of mine solo execpt the trapping. this i group hunted on endor and just throw traps nothing else and did the tree in that whole hunt. The other trees where done on dant on quenker missions and hurtons, had to switch to hurtons for the bione to grind the camps.

a simple crafting macro will get you frontering really quick if you have all the resources and do it sitting in a camp as you max out the camp in about 15-20 mins.

I found trapping to be the easiest part. When I did scout, I made two crates of 25 traps for each of the scout traps. I made one crate of phenacine darts at ranger, and I occasionally crafted the sonic pulse and flashbomb traps. I mastered the trapping line in about 2 hours or so, just by chucking traps at everything. I would wait for the affect to wear off, and chuck the traps again. Maybe because I was buffed, and grinding unarmed, it went quickly. Takes me forever to kill something unarmed. I mostly went after fierce piket protectors, and that level of game on Dantooine. They gave over 500 per trap, and when you skin one of them, it was 674 scouting xp. Not too shabby, but not quick for scout xp. Lol. For frontiering, I sat in my camps with a 5 tool crafting macro set up, and just ground camp after camp. I used the high quality camp kit (whichever is the lowest ranger camp, I have a bad case of CRS lately. Lol.), and it went quickly as well. Good luck. I am still working on getting scouting xp for wayfaring and tracking. Currently 0424 ranger.
