(Warning: FS Quest spoilers)

I went glowy not too long ago, got my old man visit the other night, and last night, the Sith came to call. They were total cake, and I got my invite to the village.

I haven't paid too much attention to the quest info I've heard about the Village, since I wanted to figure out what I could by myself. I wound up at Whip, doing his quest so I could unlock Exploration and slowly work my way up to that massive +5 harvesting bonus.

(Here's where the spoilers come in)

His quest is the one where you have to go recover five imprisoned villagers who're held hostage by a bunch of Siths. I set out, confident I could do it, being a master TKA as well as a Ranger, wearing fresh buffs and composite. I mean, these things always involve lots of mean things that want to kill you, so you expect to fight.

At the first camp, I killed, and about got my ass handed to me. They were all yellow to me, fine one-on-one, but with four of them on me at once, it hurt. If I had forgotten my stimpack B's, either I would've been toast or I would've been running back and forth, killing one, fleeing, recovering, lather, rinse, repeat. I managed it, though, went to converse with my gal... And she'd spawned inside of a tree.

I was able to /target her and pull up a radial menu to select converse, but nothing worked. I tried going back to Whip to restart the quest, but that didn't work, either. I even tried getting a scrub quest to "cancel out" Whip's, but that didn't work, either. I was about to submit a CSR ticket when I realized...

Duh. Dude. I'm a Ranger. Trees vanish when I set up camps!

I went back to do it, and... Right by her had spawned a whole bunch of Sith that were red to me. They got me to half health before I could even set up a camp.

I fled.

And then I realized, again, duh, I'm a Ranger.

I made a camo kit, went in, they ignored me, and I got her out of there.

I did this for the four remaining camps as well, only having to fight once when they spotted me. The other three (and that first one with the fresh spawn), I simply walked in, conversed, and led them out in true Ranger style. It was like... Covert ops or something.

I wondered if this might go against the intentions of the quest, but I double checked Whip's words. The quest was to recover the villagers, not to slay the Sith. There was no mention of needing to kill them, and in fact, I got the "You have completed this step!" message every time I led a new villager to safety.

I'd accomplished the goal of the quest, and I'd done it with tents and camo--I'd done it like a true Ranger.

I was so very proud of myself. I felt so Rangerish.

Maybe I should hire myself out as a wilderness guide on Dathomir. >.>

Now that is the way a FS ranger should be thinking. Avoid combat unless it's absolutely necissary. Congrads. And not to try and bring those who actually prefer combat. BUT if you're a ranger in any way shape or form you don't have that many skill points to be mastering many combat proffs to be a tank. so subterfuge should be your trade in stock.

Since I make a decent living off of harvesting organis, I'm a Master Ranger, Master TKA, and after I trained in Novice Medic, I had only three points left over. Two went into Pharmacology so I could use Stimpack Bs, the remaining point will get spent in FS.

Then I give up Pharm so I can get two more boxes in Pharm.

Then I give up Novice Medic so I can get that OMG +5 harvesting bonus. (+5? We have to do all that for +5?)

Eh. I may not be able to heal myself then, but at least I'll be able to play around in FS stuff. (I maintain that anyone who's a Doctor, Commando, Combat Medic, Ranger or Bounty Hunter is dedicated to their job, since it requires an extra 48 points over most other elite professions.)

I hit return too soon.

And I agree with you, if I'm a Ranger, I should think like a Ranger first! There's just... Not much a Ranger can do these days with just their Ranger skills. No one needs camps or camo, so that pretty much leaves harvesting, which means we have to either be strong (combat) or tag along with others. I guess that's left me in a "fight it to win" mindset instead of the "Think like a Ranger" one.

Though I'm going to think like one more often now!

You don't need Pharm to use stim Bs. U can use Stim Bs with just Novice Medic

You're TKM? You should have been able to take those sith guys really easily if you had buffs and armour on but good thinking anyway!

I could take them with my buffs, but it took a while, and I did still have to heal several times. (I have only partial composite.) When I came back, the Sith Patrol was there and they were kicking my ass. The other camp I had to kill, though (when camo broke), was pretty simple. I think I did one or two cautionary heals and that was about it.

Besides! It was more fun this way!
