Thread: Brief stealth thought

Barring the idea of any third party programs that intercept and display where a radar invisible player might be, how about having the stealthed and camo'd ranger's radar dot show up on screen for a second, while their blaster bolt is in flight? I say give us 3 free shots before we can be seen. I meanif a white armored scouttrooper can sneak up on Leia in Episode 6 then I want to be able to sneak up onsomeone and point a carbine at their head.I'm not a big fan of the 15 second delay to invisibility, or of not being able to move either as I've seen in previous ideas. In my opinion, Rangers are already stacker fodder anyway, why not give us something useful.

I guess I'm just of the idea that a Ranger should be able to get TO the bottom of an enemy lookout tower without being noticed. That means moving slowly while prone and off the radar, perfect for recon.

Yeah yeah I know the part about the griefers and the exploiters etc etc... Not like anyone can run around overt anyway with the Jedi ranker's hanging out. If I'm on basedefense I don't declare until the base is actually being attacked, saves me an hour wait if they don't attack. So I'm not worried about being shot 3 times anyway. If I'm on offense I think I should be able to do my recon and not shoot, or risk my life by opening fire. I think with the new line of sight setup being implemented eventually, you'd be asking to get blasted if you were standing out in the open while overt defending a base.

On top of that, this gives Rangers another tool, counter rangering. Setting up static tripwiretraps outside a base that wouldlaunch flaresfor incomming hostiles, or how about glow wire mesh's that would negate camoflage if a ranger crossed a certain location. Would add an air of uncertainty to being a camo'd ranger, is there an opposing ranger who's setup traps that you'll miss on your way into your recon position? Are they just letting you into your recon position to report back bad intel? Is there 40 more hostiles inside the base that you're laying against the wall of where you only see 4 and your team of 20 is enroute?

Just FYI: We can navigate minefields and disarm them...

I would love to see stealth in some implementation but I doubt SOE would ever implment it because very quickly Casual Gamers would flood SOE with complaints of being griefed by Ranger dabblers who have stealth. And lets not forget about all the bases that would disappear as a result of "Stealth" teams which would also rsult in numerous complaints. SOE tends to listen to these complaints because they tend to come from the "bulk" of subscribers while we as Rangers remain the "fringe"

except stealth, as proposed is a Master-Ranger only skill. Thus, no dabblers.

I doubt many people who stack combat would give up their defense for stealth.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

You're not going to be able to take out a base while off the radar.

You're not going to be able to get past a minefield, or inside the wall.

And I know for certain that I don't hang out in plain sight when I'm on defense. What it'd do is make the casual gamers think, god forbid, before they decided to be standing around a base while overt.

If I got hit by a Ranger off the radar I'd tumble to prone to reduce my chances of being hit a second time. And it still has to be a master Ranger only skill. It'd make putting up with the aggregate skill cost worthwhile. The only few other professions that take as many or more skill points have skills that would still be much better than 3 free shots. Bounty hunters can take Jedi missions, Doctors can rez and buff, medics can heal areas at range, well maybeCommando's need a little help, but those are the only4 other professions that take as many ormore skill points than we do.

Aileili -

Can you verify we can take out minefields, besides doing the stomp and boom method (aka Polish (or insert other ethnic group of your choosing) mine detector.

Don't be telling me what you read, if you have done it, fine. Now share. But last I looked, mine detection worked as well as my laser fence.

Uh, did they remove that ability, or something?

Back when I first played as a Ranger, a year ago, I could successfully walk into active Rebel minefields and attempt to disarm the mines. I didn't work all the time, but more than once I made my way through a minefield with several active mines and disarmed them. I've done that a handfull of times as an Imperial Ranger, but that was about a year ago, soon after we got Camouflage. I'd never tried it before we got that ability and I only ever attempted it while camoed, so that could just be coincidence.

The message was something like, "You successfully navigate the enemy minefield" or something like that. You either succeeded against all mines as you entered the field or you got blasted. Then, if you clicked on the mine terminal, you got an option to disarm one at a time... I don't recall ever failing on the disarms though.

I only played for about a week after I discovered that ability, but I certainIy passedit on to other Rangers in my friends list. Idon't understand why they'd remove that ability but, granted, I have not seen an active minefield since I started playing again to test it on. Perhaps it was stealth nerfed? People don't like it when you totally circumvent and destroy their hard earned faction points.

I've done the disarming before, and just like Aileili said, I did it a long time. Haven't tried it recently though. Was kind of nifty too, seeing as I Rebels could never get into Enott's weapon shop without getting blasted, heh.

YOu don't have to be a Ranger to disarm a field...you just have to be able get close enough.
