So went upto the vette today hoping to snag the Rescue badge for some of my commrades. As we wandered the halls we eventually hit a snag and everything went south.
With only the prisoners to talk to we were in trouble because no one still had buffs and no one was strong enough to get past the STS that guarded the room. Despite opening the door and entering I was stuck because I was being aggroed and even peacing out wouldn't let me talk to the prisoners.
As I died, cloned, and ultimately lost my buffs I was pleased that my food / spice combo was still available to me.
I popped synth, vercupti, 2x brandy and a neutron pixie and went back upstairs... I was, however, trapped by the bloody "you cannot converse while fighting" message.
After some thinkng and use of explatives I thought all was lost. Then it occured to me... maybe one of our tanks could get to that room ... all I'd need to do was pull aggro off him and he could talk.
I warned him to spam peace when he made it to the prisoners and off he went. He made it all the way to the door to their room and was incapped... to my surprise however, my spamming of rescue seemed to prevent him from being DBd. As he stood he drew aggro again... but again he was not killed only incapped as my spamming continued. On his second rise from the ground nothing attacked him... apparently I had taken all the aggro away and given him the window he needed to flip the switch!
I can't be 100% sure. We owe the success of the mission to my buddy, but I'd like to think a possible functionality of Rescue has been found. Apparently... with a little speed and attention a ranger can prevent death by rescuing his colleagues while their incapped.

See!!
If people think like rangers then the challenges our profession throws up from time to time can be used to the advantage of ourselves and others.
Also like the fact that so many rangers are resourceful, prepared to adapt to the way things ARE going and not just throw a hissy fit and complain that they're not going 'just so'.
Your buffs dropped! Oh horror. No doctor around, nobody to dance and jiggle your stats back up... into the rangers ready bag and, puffft, as good as new. Well, nearly.
I've spent a few days recently with 'combat' types and they, despite having got to the top of elite combat profs, hadn't really heard of, let alone used, any food buffs other than brandy and of course spice.
Well done on creating the opportunity for your teamy to get in there and do the business. Hope you got a fair share of the lootage?

And to think of all those times I almost deleted my +6 Rescue armor attachment, just to make space in my pack or house! Maybe I'll end up using it one day after all

Rescue is one of our most underappreciated yet most powerful skills available to us. I use it all the time when hunting with my BE wife as a form of crowd control to pull mobs off her and break their aggro off me so she can continue sampling them. Or to save people before they are incapped.
I think I use it at least 5 times every time I hunt with others. It is incredibly valuable unless you are a solo hunter.

Same here I used rescue a lot when we were out sampling. I even had a macro for it. The "savemyste" macro on F12. It did /rescue, sent my pets in, then sent me in with follow target and at.
Worked really well.

I tried something similar in the DWB (we needed to talk to one last NPC to get into the crafting room) but it didn't quite work. The target was a feign deathing smuggler but I didn't tell her to peace (I figured that when she dropped to the ground, it might work). My best guess is that I was too far away or she needed to peace in addition (or to the exclusion) of feign death because I know I've used it in the DWB before with some success. Might be worth trying again the next time.

I keep seeing mention of the target player having to /peace. Is that required for /peace to work? That might explain why it never seems to work for me, as I didn't realize the other person should be peace while they're being attacked or chased (although I'm assuming that they might be doing it anyway).

it does NOT always require the person to peace.
While on dath the other week, I was running back from a missions when I saw someone who got incapped by some giant baz nitches. Only problem was, the guy had a (LD) over his head. He started to get back up and fearing that he had already been incapped twice, i used /rescue and drew all the aggros to me. I then healed him (to prevent new spawns from quickly killing him) and killed all the giant baz nitches.
as he was (LD) there was no way he could peace. Thus, i feel confident in saying that rescue does not REQUIRE the other person to peace...however, i am sure it works better, since the creature won't re-agro the person you are rescuing.
Anyway, I got a nice in-game mail the next day (I has sent one to the guy telling him not to log out in the wilderness
) and a 10k deposit in my bank.

lol
I use rescue quite often when hunting, especially with my jedi friends. Sometimes, they bite off more than they can chew, and with a quick rescue it saves them from certain death. I can usually tank anything for a while... at least until i get a heal. However, this being said... I use it, I sometimes like it, I wish it could be a little more fleshed out in terms of a skill.
