Hi all and thanks for taking the time to read this question.. Well I am fairly new to SWG and after playing around with the diffent classes and master a few I have found that I love the Scout/Ranger profession, I love the camps I know I know but they are just so darn handy when you are in the middle of nowhere and need a place to relax kinda like a portalble city and I just love that ! Anyway getting to the question at hand, I want to retain a few of the other skill like artisan for my merchants and surveying so after all is said and done I am only able to go up on tree of the pistolleer profession, and I have been told that unless you master a total weapon class you might as well be useless, I am not looking to be uber but would be nice to be in a group or hunt without getting eaten all the time. So the question is is this true do I have to master a weapon skill to be effective or can a Master Scout/Master Ranger/0040 medic /pistoleer 0040 be ok ? Sorry for asking but everybody seems to think diffent and I am hoping you guys can help answer it .Just a note whats with people saying Scout/Ranger being as waste, I been in groups who just love my camps when we need a place to heal ? Anyway thanks for the time guys see ya in the woods

Anyone with Ranger is not going to be uber. And yes, unless you master a combat profession, you will be lagging behind others in being able to drop the large creatures.
You are keeping a lot of medic there. I merely have kept novice and one box, more than enough to use stim Bs. Cs are nice, but not that much more effective than Bs. Coupled with modified clothing, I can heal myself fairly quickly just using Bs.
The difference between mastering a combat skill like Pistols and 0040 is lightyears. I am done dropping the lair and am home sipping a well deserved adult beverage while you will still be out there, trying to drop a lair that doesn't pay as much with creatures that do not drop as much resource.
IMHO - drop the artisan stuff. Yeah, you can make money, but that is too much like a job. Surveying? why? I have harvestors going now and have no artisan. Mastering Pistols will get you faster speed, dodges, better missions and ultimately, more money.

Overall i'm with JB on this. I have been in game about 6-7 weeks. doing this track. I just dropped all my medic and went with a stimbot. Since I went rifleman I try really hard not to get beat up real bad. I went Master Ranger/Rifle/CH... Should end up Rifleman 4/2/0/0,CH 4/2/0/4 something like that. Still might drop CH for getting Master Rifleman just can't decside. Sure the extra firepower would be nice. But damn I like having the critters since the droid choices for players are so lame.

4/2/0/0 Rifleman? "extra" firepower would be nice? I'm sorry, but you're using a pea shooter while a master rifleman is holding the nuke bazooka from Starship troopers. It's not a bit of extra firepower, it's a lot of extra firepower. If you get master marksman (+5 riflespeed) or a +5 rifle speed tape to cap your speed you can drop a Enraged Bull Rancor (CL89) in 10secs. Without riflespeed the most powerful ranged weapon in the game (T21, AP3, 200-500) is much too slow to deliver it's potential. CH is fun, the higher payer missions you can get with it are nice, your own private tanksare handy. But who needs a tank if you can drop 95% of the creatures before they reach you?
Drawbacks:
- You need to take your time taking on lairs
- If you don't take your time in order to maximize killsyou will need low encumberance armor
- Either way you'll have to keep yourself drunk when fighting, good low enc armor can safe you however from eating crates of canapes too
- You'll need buffs alot, rifles have pretty high HAM costs and firing once a second isn't very healty on your HAM bars

Remeber your a ranger, we have camo that lets us shoot a few extra times without being seen, we have creature knowledge so we know what works best agaisnt them (use Dxr-6b acid rifle on rancors they go down faster as there resists suck to acid, 70% energy resist compared to 40% acid). Take the time to learn how to pull one social creature from a group (bleeds are great for this) and always watch out for scout varity animals as they love to invite the whole pack to munch on you

Drawbacks:
- You need to take your time taking on lairs depends on the lair, anything with less than 6k ham can be strafe shot and the spawns will conveintly run into your line of fire to repair the lair or try to.
- If you don't take your time in order to maximize killsyou will need low encumberance armor True Ubese armour is your best friend.
- Either way you'll have to keep yourself drunk when fighting, good low enc armor can safe you however from eating crates of canapes too Brandy, veg canapes and ahrissa, the staple foods of Alll rifleman with a muon gold kicker
- You'll need buffs alot, rifles have pretty high HAM costs and firing once a second isn't very healty on your HAM bars Not totaly true, You can survive without buffs but you will eat through a lot of stim B's for self inflicted damage

Hmmm well are teh Rifle speed tapes working? I have a +8 Rifle speed AA on my gloves. (it was a gift from a Pistoler Master that was leaving the game)... I have not notioced any real change or do I need that 0/0/0/1 box first to get the ad?
Thanks for the respoces though.

Drawbacks:
- You need to take your time taking on lairs depends on the lair, anything with less than 6k ham can be strafe shot and the spawns will conveintly run into your line of fire to repair the lair or try to. You tend to blow the lair before everything spawns that way, bad for harvest.
- If you don't take your time in order to maximize killsyou will need low encumberance armor True Ubese armour is your best friend. Armor decay = condition - (dmg done * resist %) e.g. creature hits your chest for 1000 points, 80% kin resist, 200 points dmg to your HAM bar and the condition of your armor. Composite usually has 10% higher kinetic resist and twice the condition. If you custom order it you can get 80% composite with very low encumberance.
- Either way you'll have to keep yourself drunk when fighting, good low enc armor can safe you however from eating crates of canapes too Brandy, veg canapes and ahrissa, the staple foods of Alll rifleman with a muon gold kicker Brandy, agree. Ahrissa and Canapes can be skipped with good armor and stats maxed on mind (some species are restricted) thus saving your food space for veghash
- You'll need buffs alot, rifles have pretty high HAM costs and firing once a second isn't very healty on your HAM bars Not totaly true, You can survive without buffs but you will eat through a lot of stim B's for self inflicted damage Usage of stimB's is less foolproof then buffs, requires skillpoints or a droid with someone to load it for you and inventory space. I prefer buffs.
Kalaf, the speed has an exponential component. The higher it becomes the more effect each point has. Turning +25 into +33 is hardly noticable, turning the +90 into +98 is extremely noticable.
