  • Camping on Endor, Yavin and Dantooine to finish Frontiering: more weeks than I can count, and resources aplenty

  • Voluntarily working to master a profession that's admitedly broken and requires that same Frontiering line: possibly insane

  • Dedicing to master Tracking before Wayfaring: again possibly insane

  • Getting the Badge of Courage within 15 min of starting to do the Hero quests, the Badge of Intellect within 30 min of starting to do the Hero quests, and then finding the Moisture Farmer AND GETTING TO TALK TO HIM AND GET THE WAYPOINT TO THE CAVE 30 seconds before server reset?

PRICELESS!

Boy, I really really really love being a Ranger. I'm loving being back on Tatooine for the first time in a month or more I guess, I'm laughing my butt off as I OH-SO-SLOWLY work my way up the Wayfaring tree at this point 9 points at a time (hey, the kreetles aren't breaking my mask scent now! Woot!). Decided yesterday to try my hand at some honest to goodness tracking and finally use the areatrack skill for something OTHER than seeing what big baddies were close that I could just go and kill. Found the bladeback boar using areatrackliterally within 15 min of getting on planet and deciding to do that first, the BH mission (Intellect) was pathetically easy, and then I spent a few hours wandering the desert on foot and tracking for the moisture farmer. All the normal tricks, starting near the Jabba's Henchmen cave, going out and tracking in a grid, blah blah blah. Couple hours spent tracking to no avail. Decided to log for the night and get some sleep for once. So, up early with the baby again this morning, what to do? Why, track of course! Spent some more time, gradually getting close to Bestine by this point as I work my way back and forth and ever farther south. Started getting the "Server will shut down in XXX minutes" warnings. 3 minutes to go, and a Moisture Farmer finally pops up again in areatrack! Now I AM feeling the pressure, since I've got 3 min to see if this is THE ONE or if it's yet just another random yellow-dot moisture farmer standing around his house. Didn't see Settlers or anything else in the areatrack window tho, so I had a good feeling..... rushed off northwest towards the farmer to see if this was going to be a waste of time or pay dirt.

Guess I should have scrolled down past all the jawas to see the Tuskens listed, huh.

90 seconds or so of incap, now I've got MAYBE a minute left before reset. Areatrack again just to get my bearings and make sure I wasn't imagining it, carefully remove myself from the vicinity of all the Tuskens that I stupidly forgot to notice before, and quickly haul my butt over to the moisture farmer. White dot on the overhead map! 30 Sec warning from the system. I don't think I've clicked thru a conversation that fast EVER, but I found the darned moisture farmer and got the waypoint to the cave to save hisfamily. Check off another item on the big "To Do as a Ranger" list. Now if I can only find those darn pirates....

Everyone masters Tracking before wayfaring. Most people ONLY master Tracking. Its the only useful line we got.

I would also like to add: I am doing this on the Wanderhome toon. If you get /conceal too early you have issues with it causing aggro and is a general headache to your party. I plan on maxing scouting exp first then getting the full line all at once (anyone on WH need AP?). Therefore, I have the full tracking line and waiting till scouting exp=170,000.

Well, I DID say POSSIBLY insane. That's probably open to interpretation or debate I guess, maybe someone would want Terrain negotiation before tracking?

And I did the Tracking line by pretty much maxing and running up the whole line in about a day, just cruising around Dantooine, hunting and with mask scent on.

My problem was mastering tracking and wayfaring and then maxing out scouting xp too quickly. I'm used to the quiet now, but early on I was a little dependent on the message saying I got such and such points for successfully fooling a creature with my maskscent. I wouldn't check to see if red dots were critters or tough npc's-- if I got the message, I kept on course, and if I got no message pertaining to my camoflage, I veered away from the dots if I was less than 60 meters from them. After being shot in the head by a tusken chieftain or ganked by a pack of desert demons one too many times, I got a little more cautious. (I wear ubese with very little energy protection.) Now I tend to slow my bike or cu pa and check to see just what kind of mess I'm riding into.

Give me time, and I learn. Usually.
