Thread: advice on hunting template...

Recently we've had a big problem with hunters (for hide and meat) on our server, and armorsmiths are continually paying hire prices and hiring hunters. Since im a little low on cash lately, i've decided to try out scout/ranger as a moneymaking template.

Currently, im master fencer, and im probably gonna keep it. I know its not the best PvE profession, but im hoping for a few changes in our arsenal after the combat upgrade. Also, the high defenses let me fight unarmored (and most of the time unbuffed) which is great for continuing work in the wild without having to run back to civilization for a doc.

So, my planned template is Master fencer, master scout, ranger 0040 (both for hunting and tracking), and medic 4440.

From what I figure, this will let me do most of my work without armor or buffs, and be able to harvest enough to make a bit of money (most of the crafters i know are currently paying in the 75-200 cpu range for various hides and meats).

So hows this sound? just looking for some input from experienced rangers

As a master fencer/ranger 4/4/3/4/Novice CH i can tell you that its nice just to be able to hunt unbuffed. So the template your looking at is good as well since it lets you heal yourself on the fly and get the ranger bonus for harvesting

Canon Fodder - The former Ranger/CH now unplayed Smuggler
Down to one account and thats only because its a station pass
Currently a Droid Commander in City of Villians (really)

Thanks

guess its a good temp then.

Ive often thought about going Creature handler, but IMO its just not strong enough after the pet nerf.

I've got a bio engineered pet though that has 8.5k HAM and 50% kinetic resist (gurreck) that's low enough for me to use it non-ch, though against most stuff he's pretty useless.

Now all i gotta do is stock up on foods that'll buff/replenish my stats when i need it

alot of the time, rangers/scouts start charging as high as 200 cause someone was buying the meat/hides etc at a price that high, i see it on the trade forums all the time, so its not really completely the fault of the hunter, more of bad advertising on the crafters part. Generally anything under 50cpu forreally greatquality is a waste of time for alot of hunters, it all depends where its located wether or not its worth going after for low cpu. So dont directly point the finger at the rangers lol, point it at rich crafters who will buy it at massive cpu prices.

well, a couple months ago we had a streak of very high quality avian meat on our server that docs were paying insane amounts for. if i remember correctly, the OQ was over 950, and potential energy was 967 i think. I've got a lot of doc friends and most of them were willing to pay 250 cpu for it. back then i wasnt as in the hole for money as i am now, but i picked up novice scout and a couple boxes in hunting and got a little over 3000 units (probably would have had more but killing kaadu all day was really boring :smileytongue almost made my first million off of that alone

Most of the time its the armorsmiths who are paying higher prices though. High Quality wooly hide seems to generate quite a bit of money.

I guess if any crafters are willing to pay high amounts for resources, A scout/ranger should make plenty just hunting.

well sense you are venturing over into the ranger realm, i must say it is really fun, you will enjoy it, well unless someone tries to get you to track the moisture farmer for the hermit quest

Hmmm, I just sold 530k of Rancor meat for 35 cpu... How's that not worth it when I only spent 5 days hunting?

New signature coming soon (I am so lazy)

that was just my opinion, and some rangers do feel that anything of great quality is a waste of time under and at 25cpu, not saying everyone, just some. 35cpu is good however for somethings, but i was not implying that everyone who is of the ranger path feels the same as me.
