There was a thread recently that bounced around the idea of a Ranger Vendor. This thread is really a corollary of that one and is specifically about Pricing.
What would you pay for crates of ranger-items? (or what do you think others might pay).
I was running some numbers. Let's take Dath Camo kits as an example, which I think would be a big seller. It takes 95 units of resources per kit. To get good charges (and really, I'd want to sell quality stuff) you would want some higher OQ resources. On my server, you could easily sell these resources for 50CPU, so we'll use that as a base for ingredient prices.
The math works out like this:
95units x 50CPU = 4750 creds per kit = 118750 creds per crate.
That's with no real mark-up and just the cost of resources... with factory and time costs still to consider.
Is this reasonable to you guys? Or does this math make the whole question of a Ranger Vendor seem silly and overpriced? Prices would be different for camps and traps since they only need grind quality resources, but even that would be around 20cpu conservatively.
Thanks in advance for the input.

I have a vendor that specializes in this..for most its about location.
Quality really doesnt come into play when making camps, camo, tents etc..so I price mine
low low low.
My vendor includes :
Fishing Poles 500c
Fish Bait 250-1000c depending on amount
All Camp Kits 25-1000c
All Camo Kits 200c
Fish 2500c
Fish Meat varies
Pets varies
Pet Food 100c-300c
Foraged Foods 250c
and grind organics for making the stuff above.
Im about getting the potential customer to be aloyal
one..so my prices reflect that...and im always stocked.
I say go for it. The more people you get hooked the more rangers/scouts there
will be.

Actually OQ does affect the number of charges you can get from camo kits. However, I would not charge anywhere near 20 cpu for Camo kits.

Quality is of no importance when it comes to Ranger/Scout craftables. The stats don't matter, always the same result since we have no experimentation.
Good thing for a Ranger vendor I guess. Use the crap resources for those items. 4750 for a camo kit? No chance in hell ( well, maybe if /conceal is ever made much more effective than /maskscent, maybe

Haha... learn something new every day
Now why didn't we get this on all our items?

I appreciate the input thus far. I guess the 900 OQ resources shouldn't be wasted on camo kits and shoult just be sold for 50-80cpu to a chef or doc.
you're right though, that all other items don't have stat requirements so they would be cheap.
Thanks for the details plastictree, that helps.

np-- my former NON ranger life was master architect, artisan, merchant ..gave it all up for ranger..so my expertise in sales and marketing are still within this soul of a ranger.
yes...KEEP that high quality stuff.
also-- u might try a cool idea i put down... i have a coop house with 8 vendors (all different owners) in it
ALL items are 1 credit.. called "Goodwill FOundation" vendors. I put all odds and ends on it..it helps new players tremendously. some nice stuff on it too..
lil off topic ...my bad.

I never craft camo kits with resources that I could otherwise sell. The trick is to horde a large stack of resources with high OQ, but with otherwise low stats which no one would buy. When you collect a good amount, do a factory run with them.
I've had good results with just experimenting at a private crafting station in a "research center" rated player city. Doing that with just one resource with decent OQ (700 or higher) should get you about 15 charges. No need to go overboard with all high OQ for all resources, but if you're able, that's great.
I sell all my camo in crates of 5 for 5k. 1000 credits per kit is to offset my factory maintenance/power costs and is more of a convenience charge.
Camo kits are on my "ranger field supply" vendor, along with 50cpu .95 fishing poles (which sell surprisingly well, despite I'm located on tatooine!).
I also have a Ranger BE clothing vendor -- Basically combat clothes with ms/camo, wound/injury treatment, and melee defense/stun. Despite having a master tailor, I make all of them in green, tan or earthy hues... lol.. And, no hot pants.
My third vendor is for creature resources. I just sell surplus stuff that are out of shift that I never got around to selling or just harvested for the heck of it, and it was taking up space. I sell it cheaper than what was offered for it while it was in shift. I also try to gather leather and wooly hides for architects and tailors. I don't deal with either of those two professions directly, so I just stick it on my vendor for about 10cpu or less, since those professions don't require high stats.

While I would want to carry a wide range or ranger stuff at good prices, I don't think that Hawt Pants will be making the cut.
On a side note, do you think a Hawtpant-wearing vendor would do anything positive for business? lol

My only question is -
Why pay for something that I can make myself?
I make camps on the fly. Camo kits, who cares, maskscent is free. Traps I make on the fly or waiting on intra planet shuttles. I have my own craft machine so I an experiment. My guild has better craft machines and I can always go there (some nice Ranger bought the guild all the machines, he is such a nice guy).
A friend tried this a while back, selling Ranger items, failed miserably.

well I definitely have to agree that there is a significant portion of the population that would not use this vendor too frequently. However, there are people who would love to be able to buy some stuff they can't make yet or are simply in a hurry and need a crate of something. Others don't have factories or can't be bothered with crafting. I see this as a service-oriented vendor to help a portion of the ranger community, not a cash-cow that is the first stop for every ranger in the galaxy.
Nonetheless, thanks for you input. It's interesting to hear that you had a friend that tried this and that it didn't go well.

I was never saying that this was profitable..lol..puhlease. Its more of covering bases.
1- You give the opportunity for new players and old alike to see and buy stuff they've only read about.
2- You introduce new players to the idea of scouting/rangering.
3- You make a tidy profit from unused stuff that does sit there gathering dust.
4- Who can pass up a Glow Wire Trap??? for 10 creds??
-- and granted my sales are slow..once you do make a sale and do meet the buyer..(i make it a point to email them back thanking them for buyin my products)
they're not your typical fotm player. they like swg for it's depth and detail..
and wonderment of scouting, hunting, fishing and camping.
