Hi,
I finally became glowy (yay) and I was just wondering what FS skills other Rangers have been taking? What am I supposed to do with all mytrap/scout/wilderness survival xp? From what I can understand, the only line of Heightened Senses that I might be interested in (Persuasion) requires me to be aMaster Medic to do the quest? If went for Luck I would have to pick up novice artisan (not as big a deal admittedly, but as a covert Reb I like the sound of Persuasion more) and the other two Sense trees are totally useless for a Ranger (Healing/Surveying).
Are other Rangers just using your combat skills to get xp forCombat Prowess and Enhanced Reflexes skills intead?

I had two unlocks so i took melee defense and melee accuracy. If i had to do it over again i would have taken ranged def over melee accuracy.

Hmmm...
Master Ranger + Master Elite Combat Profession + Novice Medic != FS skills
No idea how long I can keep justifying to keep Ranger at all *sigh*

Wrong. This template leaves you with three skillpoints unused, which can be used on three fs boxes.
I personally picked three melee speed boxes.

Would it? actually if you had all your FS skills youd have to drop the top half of your elite prof or ranger. Its a inevitability Iam not looking forward to.

I dropped medic, got novice artisan and did the quest resulting in Luck in about 45 minutes. Max. Including having to go to Corellia where I knew energy was good.
Got Luck, dropped artisan, regained medic.
I may get more money than my friends, and sometimes I don't get DB'd after being incapped.

First it would depend a lot on what your other professions are in conjunction with Ranger. I can not concieve with the current Dev's concept of what a Ranger is or can be, that you made it to FS without other supportive professions. Thus in my case pistols and CH are what one character is, and the other has pistols and TKA, so these characters would emphasize some of the same things and go for others that will assist them in other ways. It also depends on if you intend to become Jedi. From what I have heard from a very few players they just want the benefits for their character as they are and are not planning on becoming Jedi. Thus they would not be looking down the road to using lightsabers, and other such things.
It will also depend greatly on what happens with the GCW revamp, upgrade or whatever it is being called at this time. So could you give us a little more information on what your FS character has as his/her/it's other professions. Because what each of us would seek to have is very dependant on our own characters and style of play.

I unlocked enhanced reflexes for the melee defense line. I took up 3 boxes of melee defense for a total of +15.
Now that phase 1 is back, I think I'm going to unlock combat prowess just for the heck of it.

Well I am currently Master Ranger, Master Rifleman, Medic 1000. I initially plan to drop some medic and take 3 boxes of Melee Defence (or Ranged speed if it gets fixed sooner). I really have no immediate plans to take my main all the way to Jedi, but I would very much like to open up the second slot. So I have been looking at Padawan templates that would require the least changes to my current template. I think I can get to Padawan by dropping all my Medic, Master Ranger and a couple of boxes of trapping or camping (unsure which to drop yet) and substitute some of the skills I losewith those given by the FS survival line + other FS skills. I believe I will lose +5 harvesting, and the ability to make Dath camo kits, but that is all really apart from the trapping or camping skill loss. I will gain ranged/melee defense through FS lines butI will lose my ability to self heal.
Obviously this is a long way off, butmy Padawan (Antarian) Ranger would be Master Rifleman, Ranger 4244 or 4442, Combat Prowess 4400 (if it gets fixed) and Master Enhanced Reflexes (though I would prefer ER 4404 and HS 0040). It just seems a shame I wont be able to use any of my Ranger skills (XP wise) to get these skills, and I would really rather keep Master Ranger, but keeping Master Rifleman instead seems the obvious choice to help gain the FS skills.

I am also a Master Ranger Master Riflemen, at one point I had used up my free points in force skills.
After 2 months of this I dropped all but melee speed since ranged speed is broke, and picked up Novice Medic again.
Novice Medic turned out for me to be more important than Melee Defense, or Ranged Defense, honestly don't recall the forth skill.
I would like to pick up LUCK when it becomes around a gain. Just need to decide is having +9 ranged speed more important than LUCK +3 or do I drop Novice Medic to get Luck +4.
Concsidering the time I have spent with guildmates hunting Night sisters, rancors, and walking into caverns with them Novice Medic is paying off for me more than force skills.

This is exactly why they should have never allowed FS boxes to cost skill points. Sure it could lead to a few lop-sided templates but would allow all players access to FS skills and even unlocking. Currently it's hard to even come up with reasons to remaster Ranger let alone pickup any FS boxes as you need at least Novice Medic (and much more so after the CU) along with Master Combat Elite just to be effective. I feel the same is true with master doc/cm with novice entertaining to become the ultimate group healer (the novice entertainer with skill enhanced clothes and a few tapes allows the character to heal wounds at the rate of master entertainer) though the entertainer isn't as necessary to the Doc/CM as the Master Combat Elite/Novice Medic is to Master Ranger. The devs should have made FS boxes cost like Pilot boxes and any thoughts of retooling FS boxes would require the person to drop one entire tree and/or pickup a full tree before dropping the other if they're unlocked.

True, true... I don't mind giving up diversity in my template for FS skills, but currently Ranger is the only profession I can think of that, in order to be effective, doesn't have the 24 points left over to get Padawan. We need an elite profession on the side to be effective hunters and even with that, we're still next in line to CombatScouts when it comes to resource gathering.

Maybe the CU will make the decision for me. I suspect the points in Ranger that other people use for combat, will become even more important
