Master swords as of the current combat system is a great choice besides Ranger, I have tried all the combat profs out there except Carbineer combined with Ranger, swords & ranger is by far the most 'efficient' (harvest / time).

I have complemented my master ranger with swordsman and I love it. Swordsman is generally one of the best PvE professions and I can't see myself dropping it... and that's after tryinig out rifles.
However, it depends on your style of play. Most rangers find rifles to be more in line with what ranger 'should' use and I don't disagree with them there.
If you're more inclined to go with Melee, do swords for sure. If you want ranged, go rifle. Rifle is definitly the most popular choice for a ranger, but as I said, I love my Blast dmg hammer and Kinetic dmg Scythe. BTW, Blast dmg is phenomenal.

Also, I would direct you to this thread:

it provides a great overview of ranger templates.
Sry for the lack of a clicky.

My template is 1-0-4-0 Ranger, TK Master, and First aid 2 in Medic (so that i can heal bleeding while still in combat).

As a Ranger, i find that the Meditation tree is extremely valuable, especially when out hunting on places like Endor where Diseases and Poisons run amuck.

Also, a TKM can take down almost any creature this game can throw at you. there are very few things i need to run away from when hunting.

on that note, my roommate, Master Swordsman, Master Doctor, fears NOTHING in the game. This guy solos SBDs, Kimogilas of all types including GDKs, Acklay, ect. He used to be a Fencer, but one day wanted to try something different, so he picked up swordsman, and he couldnt possibly be happier with his choice. Swordsman is probably the BEST profession for PVE in the current state of the game. So I am very confident in recomending that you pick up Swordsman, you won't be disappointed.

personally though, i'm staying TKM just because i love Teras Kasi, and will probably NEVER drop it.

Yup TKM works also quite good but I never sticked to it as the damagetype limitation and some of my favorite things to kill (Peko-Peko Albatross, Malkloc Plainswalkers and of course Nightsister Elders ) didn't really work out combined .

For general "feel" and "RP" -ness I've found that rifleman and ranger mastering is quite fun, and fairly cool for PvE as well, allowing to sneak and creep around your prey, but still allowing enough room for failure to make all the sneaking challenging.
